The same person that once averred “climate change is real and it’s here” admitted to struggling about grade-level astronomical knowledge during an appearance on Jimmy Fallon’s late night show.
Woke feminist Chelsea Handler made the startling admission to Fallon and his audience that up until a few years ago, she was not aware that the sun and moon were different celestial orbs inhabiting our day and night sky.
Host Fallon set up the bizarre and practically unthinkable story by asking guest Handler to recount her trip to Africa as a 40-year-old tourist. She is now 47.
It’s clear Handler loves the sound of her own voice and is smitten with what she perceives as sagacious self-awareness, because it takes quite a while to get to the point.
“Well, okay,” Handler responded to the request. “The reason why I am very outspoken about not wanting to be a parent, because I don’t think I have the skills that, you know, that I’m not equipped with what it takes to answer all of those questions to children.”
“Because they don’t just ask you once. They come in and in and in,” she continued. “I have enough nieces and nephews to know that I don’t have the tolerance for that kind of line of questioning about things that I really don’t even know the answers to.”
“And at a certain age when you don’t know, you know, the answers to questions, it’s too embarrassing to ask questions,” she said. “You know, you just have to pretend, you know. And, I talk about a story that I didn’t know — and this is true — I didn’t know until I was 40 years old that the sun and the moon were not the same thing.”
To his credit, Fallon at least called her out on this, perhaps as dumbfounded as the rest of us in wondering how anyone could confuse the sun and moon.
“It was shocking to me as well,” Handler admitted. “My older sister, Simone, looked up at the sky and she said, ‘Chelsea, Chelsea, look up. It’s not often you get to see the sun and the moon at the same time.’”
“And I was like Scooby-Doo,” Handler confessed. “I said it — I go, ‘Wait, I go, but they’re always together.’ And as soon as I said that, she turned around, she goes, ‘What did you say?’”
Handler said that she “just tried to gloss over it” but her sister wouldn’t let it go.
“I was like, ‘Nevermind what I said, I know,’ And she said, ‘No, I need you to tell me what you think is happening between the sun and the moon,’” Handler said. “And I was like, ‘Honestly, I just assumed when the sun went down, it popped back up as the moon.’”

Handler is perhaps as clueless as she is mean-spirited and racist. Leading up to the 2020 presidential election, she spoke about her ex-boyfriend, rapper 50 Cent, and his conservative leanings. Handler said during an interview that she “had to remind him that he was a black person so he can’t vote for Donald Trump.”
That comment was also made, by the way, with Jimmy Fallon.
