The Attorney General of Colorado, Phil Weiser, is suing Mesa County Sheriff’s Deputy Alexander Zwinck for sharing information with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), which led to the detention of Caroline Dias Goncalves on June 5, 2025.
For context, Zwinck allegedly stalled Goncalves, allowing ICE to detain her for 15 days. Despite state laws that prohibit such actions, Zwinck chose to prioritize border security over progressive local laws to keep America safe.
Reacting to the controversy in a viral post to Facebook, a prominent conservative influencer wrote, “COLORADO DEPUTY PLACED ON LEAVE AND SUED BY THE AG FOR AIDING ICE. Colorado AG Phil Weiser is SUING a deputy who shared information leading to a woman’s ICE arrest.”
Continuing, the same user added, “Caroline Dias Goncalves was arrested by ICE shortly after she was pulled over by Deputy Alexander Zwinck for a driving violation. AG Weiser said it’s the first lawsuit under a Colorado law prohibiting state and local law enforcement from asking people about their immigration status
Deputy Zwinck was placed on paid leave,” adding, “This SOB Attorney General should be thrown in a jail cell.”
Explaining his reasoning, far-left Attorney General Phil Weiser fell back on woke Colorado laws. He said, “State law specifies that Colorado law enforcement officers are dedicated to enforcing Colorado law and do not do the work of the federal government to enforce immigration law.”
Offering a feeble defense of this unacceptable decision, Weiser said, “In this case, the driver was detained by immigration authorities because of actions by Colorado law enforcement despite the absence of any criminal activity on her part.”
Concluding his remarks, the bureaucrat whined about ICE’s decision to arrest the suspect, saying, “Her detention for over two weeks is directly due to this violation of Colorado’s laws. Because of this action, we are making clear that Colorado law enforcement’s role is to advance public safety, not take on the responsibility of doing the work of federal immigration enforcement.”

Issuing a statement, a Mesa County Sheriff’s Office Spokesperson said that the courageous deputy was facing an investigation for his actions. The statement said, “The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office is within one week of completing the administrative investigation into the June 5, 2025, incident involving Ms. Diaz Goncalves. We are committed to transparency in this process and, as such, once the administrative investigation is complete, we will provide a formal statement.”
As we reported, Department of Justice has launched a lawsuit against he woke leadership of the city of Los Angeles, for their unconstitutional ‘sanctuary city’ policies. In a press release, AG Pam Bondi said that these policies are “the driving cause of the violence, chaos, and attacks on law enforcement that Americans recently witnessed in Los Angeles.”
Adding more context, she said, “Jurisdictions like Los Angeles that flout federal law by prioritizing illegal aliens over American citizens are undermining law enforcement at every level — it ends under President Trump.”
Another DOJ official said that the lawsuit serves to hold LA “accountable for deliberately obstructing the enforcement of federal immigration law,” adding, “The United States Constitution’s Supremacy Clause prohibits the city from picking and choosing which federal laws will be enforced and which will not.”
