“Cinderella” star Billy Porter went on an unhinged rant where he accused the United States school system of ignoring contributions to the culture that were made by queer artists. Porter claimed that queer artists are being overshadowed in the education system by straight artists who were less deserving of the recognition.
Porter is starring in the upcoming musical “Billy Strayhorn: Something to Live For” and appears on the show “Live With Kelly and Mark” to talk about the upcoming show. Porter decided to use his time on the show to argue that schools should share with children more accomplishments from gay artists.
Porter started, saying, “Everybody knows Duke Ellington, but very few people know one of the mastermind behind Duke Ellington, and his name was Billy Strayhorn. He’s one of he greatest jazz musicians, writers, and arrangers of all time.”
He continued, explaining that, as Porter puts it, Strayhorn was denied fame due to this sexuality. “He took a backseat to Duke Ellington back in the day because he was queer.” Porter said, “We grew up in the same neighborhood, and I didn’t even know about him until I graduated from the Creative and Performing Arts high school and moved to New York City and found a book. That’s unacceptable. So I’m so grateful to be able to bring this story to life,”
Porter is bound to stir up contempt from American conservatives after this interview, something that has proven time and time again to be devastating for the bottom line of shows and performances. Movies like “Little Mermaid” and “Lightyear” suffered mightily due to the woke nonsense that was shoved down the throat of the viewer.
Porter did, however, have a fun moment earlier this year when he had some choice words for Disney CEO Bob Iger regarding the writer’s strike. He said, “I don’t have any words for it, but: fuck you. That’s not useful, so I’ve kept my mouth shut. I haven’t engaged because I’m so enraged. I’m glad I’ve been over here [in London]. But when I go back I will join the picket lines.”
According to Breitbart News, he continued, “I have to sell my house. Yeah! Because we’re on strike. And I don’t know when we’re gonna go back. The life of an artist, until you make fuck-you money — which I haven’t made yet — is still check-to-check. I was supposed to be in a new movie and on a new television show starting in September. None of that is happening. So to the person who said, ‘We’re going to starve them out until they have to sell their apartments’ — you’ve already starved me out.”
Now, maybe Porter has a grip on what he’s doing, and he thinks that this most recent woke outburst will help his new musical. But, more likely, he just made a big mistake awakening the hornets news of Right Wing Americans who are sick and tired of hearing about how evil the viewers are for not being away of Billy Strayhorn.
