In some more good news for those wanting to see real justice brought down upon those who attack Border Patrol agents as they try to enforce immigration law, the woke California university professor who assaulted ICE agents with tear gas as they raided a farm has been indicted.
For reference, the professor who was arrested in mid-July and indicted in early September is Jonathan Anthony Caravello. Caravello is a math professor at California State University Channel Islands who was arrested after assaulting federal agents who were raiding the marijuana operation at Glass House Farms in Ventura County, California, where a dozen child laborers were rescued and hundreds of illegal aliens were arrested.
Announcing the arrest on X in mid-July, US Attorney Essayli said, “Professor Jonathan Caravello was not ‘kidnapped’ by federal agents. He was arrested for throwing a tear gas canister at law enforcement. He is charged with a violation of 18 USC 111 and will have a court appearance tomorrow.”
According to reports of the incident that emerged, Caravello tried to kick a canister of tear gas when Border Patrol agents rolled those canisters toward the protesters in an attempt to disperse them. He missed his kick, however, and ended up grabbing the canister and throwing it directly at the Border Patrol agents.
Since then, Caravello has been indicted by a federal grand jury over his attack on the Border Patrol agents during the Glass House Farms raid. Such is what US Attorney Essayli announced on X, saying, “UPDATE: Cal State Professor Jonathan Caravello has been indicted by a federal grand jury for a violation of 18 USC 111. He faces up to 20 years in prison for throwing a tear gas canister at federal agents.”
The law that Caravello is accused of violating, 18 USC 111, provides, in part, that “Whoever forcibly assaults, resists, opposes, impedes, intimidates, or interferes with [a federal law enforcement officer] while engaged in or on account of the performance of official duties…shall, where the acts in violation of this section constitute only simple assault, be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than one year, or both, and where such acts involve physical contact with the victim of that assault or the intent to commit another felony, be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than 8 years, or both.”
Caravello’s university has stood by him even in the wake of the indictment, as Fox News Digital reported. Beginning its statement on the matter Caravello said, “We are aware of the recent indictment involving Jonathan Caravello. As this matter is currently before the courts, we will not be commenting on the details of the case.”

Continuing, the woke university argued that it is focused on its students and respects the legal process, saying, “We respect the legal process and believe it is important to allow it to proceed without speculation. Our focus remains on our ongoing work and commitments to our students.” Finally, the university said, “Jonathan Caravello is still employed and currently teaching at our campus.”
