House Majority Leader Steve Scalise took an opportunity during a press conference to give his thoughts about the election of Democratic Socialist Zohran Mamdani as the mayor of New York. During the fiery, inspiring talk, he made it clear that while many Democrats are now hailing Mamdani as the future of their party and are seemingly bursting at the seams with excitement about the possibility of making America socialist, they better put a pin in it, because they aren’t going to succeed.
In a clip taken from the lengthier 8-minute speech, Scalise declared, “Democrats applaud socialism being the new wave of their party. A few common-sense Democrats left in their party are leaving. They’re running for the exits.”
He then goes on to add that while some will flee New York City following the implementation of Mamdani’s socialist policies, which are sure to wreck the already damaged economy of the Big Apple and head to greener pastures in Florida or Texas, if these policies are put in place across the country, they’ll have nowhere to turn.
“Well, you might be able to leave New York City and go to Florida or Texas,” Scalise continues, adding, “but if they destroy America, there’s nowhere else to go. That’s why we’re going to fight for freedom every single day.” The House Majority Leader then reiterated that attempts by the far left to try and push socialism on the rest of the country will ultimately fail.
“And their approach to Marxism, socialism, whatever you want to call it, will not prevail in America,” he concluded. Earlier in the speech, Scalise quoted former President Ronald Reagan, who famously stated that freedom in the U.S. is only one generation away from extinction, “if we don’t fight to defend it,” pointing out that those words are still true and applicable today, perhaps even more so.
Scalise also provided an example of moderate Democrats “heading for the exits” by discussing Rep. Jared Golden’s (D-ME) announcement that he would not be seeking reelection. Scalise quoted Golden who said, “We are allowing the most pugilistic elements of our party to call the shots. Just look again at the shutdown. For as long as I can remember, we have opened, we have opposed shutting down the government over policy disputes. We criticized Republicans for taking hostages this way.”
The Republican congressman then explained how Americans are well aware that the “free stuff” promised by socialists like Mamdani aren’t really free, noting that common, everyday folks know there’s no such thing as a free lunch. He then discusses how it won’t be the super-rich, the millionaires, who pay the higher tax rates to fund the goodies, but those who make a $100,000 a year.

“You might be making $100,000 a year. By the way, a police officer married to a school teacher makes more than that in New York City. They’re going to be the “rich” who get the higher taxes and the free busses and the grocery stores that are run by the government with empty shelves and expired food.”
