Earlier this year, footage was shared on social media showing Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) grilling a Biden nominee over allegedly lying in front of Congress. Without holding back, Hawley sounded off on Karla Campbell, who was nominated to the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit in May, for supposedly lying under oath and continually changing her story about her values.
Sen. Hawley shared the footage to his X account in June, writing, “This radical Biden nominee worked for a group that wants to ABOLISH the police, abolish ICE, abolish capitalism, destroy Israel, and foment revolution. So she lied about it. Repeatedly. Today we caught her.” Beginning his line of questioning in the video, he said, “So you lied to Senator Grassley here under oath, what else have you lied about?”
Reading off an alleged statement from Worker’s Dignity, a “worker-led non-profit” Campbell was affiliated with that is “dedicated to fighting wage theft and workplace injustice,” Hawley said, “Workers dignity has condemned Israel’s ethnic cleansing of Palestine. They have said that Israel is engaged in ethnic cleansing. Do you agree with that?” Campbell replied, “No, Senator.”
“How?” Hawley responded. “How can I believe you? You just lied under oath a moment ago to Senator Grassley, you’ve lied to us up and down on this committee. I mean, this is a serious problem, Ms. Campbell, I have to say, I’ve never seen a witness, ever in five years of this committee, sit here and lie to us and change the story, person to person.”
Continuing, Hawley said, “Why are you doing it? What is it? Why are you afraid to tell the truth about workers dignity? Why have you lied to this committee? Why didn’t you disclose it? Why did you lie to Senator Grassley? Why have you changed your story every time you’re asked?” The Biden nominee maintained that she had been truthful.
She asserted, “Senator, I have not lied to you today. I’ve tried to represent my participation with this group.” Hawley fired back, “What you’ve done is you’ve misrepresented your participation. with this group you apologized to Senator Cruz for any confusion, you’ve created the confusion.” Hawley’s post sparked commentary from conservatives.
Sharing a clip of the incident, news analyst Kyle Becker wrote, “Things get *awkward* for Biden’s Court of Appeals nominee when she gets caught telling a blatant lie under oath to Congress 🔥.” Becker further questioned, “When is she going to jail like Peter Navarro and Steve Bannon? 🤔”. The American Tribune commented under the post, “It’s reassuring to know that a liar could be charged with judging appeals.”

Another person commented, “Disqualified. A lie under oath to a committee is PERJURY. Ask her to explain what is perjury. What should the punishment for perjury be? Would she like to remove herself from the process now or shall we continue to review how you have perjured yourself?”
