As the immigration crisis deepens in the United States, Americans are seeing increased violence involving undocumented immigrants. The shocking, brutal murder of Laken Riley at the hands of an illegal Venezuelan migrant on the campus of the University of Georgia in Athens has sparked another round of calls for stiffer penalties for undocumented aliens who commit crimes.
Senator J.D. Vance of Ohio said this week: “Given the brutal murder of Laken Riley at the hands of an illegal immigrant, it’s vital that the Senate pass Kate’s Law, as well as additional measures that make it easier to deport violent illegals and harder for them to come into our country and commit violent crimes.” The bill is named after Kate Steinle, a 32-year-old San Francisco woman who was shot and killed in 2015 by a Mexican illegal who had previously been deported five times.
On Thursday, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was asked about the murder of the Georgia nursing student at the hands of an illegal migrant, and to no one’s surprise, she blamed Republicans. According to CNN, Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri said about Joe Biden, “These deaths are on him.” This led to a rambling diatribe by Jean-Pierre that predictably ended with the blame being laid on Republicans and President Trump.
The press secretary said: “If whoever is found guilty we need to make sure that — make sure that happens. And obviously, we don’t want to — we don’t want to see anything happen like that again.” KJP declined to acknowledge that it was an illegal migrant, then shifted directly into blaming Republicans for Joe Biden’s problem.
KJP continued: “But here’s the thing. We have done the work to make sure we’re dealing with a broken immigration system. The Republicans have gotten in the way. They have gotten in the way. And that’s what we continue to see over and over and over again. And so, look, this is a serious — this is a serious matter. That’s why the president is going to the border.”
Biden visited the border this week and, after taking advantage of the Texas wildfires to push climate change, immediately launched into more of the blame game, with Republicans once again being painted as the villains. Biden inherited the most secure southern border in generations and, almost on day one, began to undo President Trump’s border policies in favor of an open border.
The press secretary unsurprisingly blamed the favorite whipping boy for the failed Democrat White House, Donald Trump. “This really — the folks who are getting in the way here are Republicans. They are getting in the way and they are doing it because of what Donald Trump is telling them to do for their own — for his own political gain. And so, this is where we are right now. So the president is going to take it directly to the American people. He’s going to hear by — form folks — from people who are — who are directly impacted by what’s happening with this broken immigration system.”
Joe Biden may not want to take it to the American people. If polling is even close to accurate, his presidency and his failures are weighing on the country, and America’s patience is wearing thin. The Hail Mary the administration is throwing at the border is too little, too late, and voters in November may show KJP, Biden, and the rest the door.
