“White Kamala”: Online Commenters Catch Democrat Gubernatorial Candidate Slurring Her Words During Her Speech, Allege He Was “Hammered”

Ohio Democratic gubernatorial nominee Amy Acton drew ridicule online after a Toledo campaign appearance prompted commenters to accuse her of slurring her words and appearing intoxicated. Critics compared her delivery to former Vice President Kamala Harris, with some calling her “White Kamala.” Clips circulated showing the candidate stumbling through an introduction and mixing up vehicles while discussing her Republican opponent, Vivek Ramaswamy. The drinking allegations came from social media commentators.

Acton appeared alongside Democratic Senate candidate Sherrod Brown at UAW Local 12 on Thursday, October 29th, 2026. The union had endorsed her gubernatorial campaign, and the event brought the two Democratic candidates before a Toledo audience. Standing at a podium with an Ohio Democratic Party backdrop, Acton greeted attendees before turning to language displayed behind her on the stage.

Her opening included an enthusiastic welcome back to the union venue, followed by a reference to truth and justice. Acton then appeared to struggle with the wording of her next thought, correcting herself while referring to the words behind her. She also spoke about having visited Toledo frequently and described feeling energy in the city during a busy campaign week.

The Gateway Pundit reported that Acton began, “Ahhh it’s so good! Good to be back here at UAW!” Later in the introduction, she told the audience she was honored to attend. She continued discussing the atmosphere in Toledo, adding, “You know, it has been quite a week!” The outlet published footage of that portion of her remarks.

Another segment involved Acton’s attempt to contrast her campaign travel with Ramaswamy’s. As Trending Politics reported, she mixed up a Jeep and a jet before trying to correct herself. “I mean in a big jet. He’s flying in a Jeep,” she said. Loomer Unleashed also circulated footage of Acton pausing and laughing, reporting that someone in the audience called for her to continue.

The reaction included a post from Florida’s Voice contributor Eric Daugherty declaring, “Amy Acton is HAMMERED.” Twitchy published his post alongside several other responses to the footage. An X account posted another clip and asked, “What in the White Kamala is this?” Other embedded responses compared Acton to Harris and questioned her ability to face Ramaswamy in a debate.

The Jeep reference had already featured in Acton’s campaign messaging before the Toledo appearance. In an October 1st, 2026, press release promoting her interview on MS NOW’s “The Weeknight,” her campaign described her traveling around Ohio in a used Jeep Wrangler. The release attacked Ramaswamy’s private-jet travel and presented her own driving as part of an effort to reach voters across the state.

During that interview, Acton discussed visiting communities where Democrats had spent little time and hearing concerns about household expenses. Her campaign listed proposals involving tax relief for working families, childcare, medical debt and energy bills. She also pointed to her work with governors from both parties, including Republican Mike DeWine. Describing her campaign travel, she said, “I have driven my Jeep Wrangler, my used Wrangler, all over the state of Ohio.”
