A resurfaced video from 2020 reminded social media users of an instance where Joe Biden got into an intense disagreement with an industrial worker who was pressing Biden on his stance toward the Second Amendment.
The worker came prepared with a question about gun rights, asking Biden how he intended to appeal to union workers he allegedly embraced a hostile stance toward gun ownership. The individual asserted that there are many firearm owners within unions.
“How do you intend on getting the union vote when there’s a large portion of the union workers that are gun enthusiasts and you are actively trying to diminish your Second Amendment right and take away our guns,” he asked Biden.
Biden immediately hit back with a profane response, telling the man he was incorrect. He also appeared to “shush” an individual who attempted to quell the contentious conversation so he could rebuke the worker. Biden maintained that he did indeed support the Second Amendment, citing the fact he was a gun owner himself. However, the former vice president under Obama appeared to signal that he believed there are limitations to gun rights.
“You’re full of sh*t. I did not—no, no, shush. Shush. I support the Second Amendment. The Second Amendment – just like right now if you yelled fire, that’s not free speech. And from the very beginning, I have a shotgun, I have a 20-gauge, a 12-gauge. My sons hunt, guess what? You’re not allowed to own any weapon, I’m not taking your gun away at all. You need 100 rounds?” Biden said.
“You and Beto say you’re going to take our guns –” the worker retorted, accusing Biden of collaborating with Beto O’Rourke, a staunch advocate of gun control, to restrict firearm ownership. However, Biden vehemently denied the claim, stating, “I did not say that. That’s not true. I did not say that.”
The man continued, “It’s a viral video.” Biden disagreed, “It’s a viral video like the other ones you’re putting out that are simply a lie. Wait, wait wait, wait, take your AR, your AR-14, Don’t tell me anything about…” It appears that Biden meant to refer to the AR-15 platform, a popular firearm in America.
Citizen Free Press uploaded the old footage of Biden to X, where he commented, “Flashback — This is what happens when Joe Biden meets an average Joe.” Watch the heated exchange between the now-president and the union worker below:
The popular conservative X account juxtaposed the footage of Biden with a recent clip of former President Donald Trump visiting Manhattan, where he was met with an energetic crowd of supporters cheering him on. This reception of Trump in the heart of New York City is notable as the Big Apple is known to be extremely liberal.
You can see part of that Trump welcoming below:
While Trump has frequented New York for his various legal battles, such as the civil fraud case and the hush money trial, he has taken the opportunity to interact with supporters outside of court proceedings since he cannot be campaigning in other states. Trump has met with groups such as construction and union workers, law enforcement, and bodega workers, seemingly increasing his popularity in NYC. Trump has even indicated he may try to win New York in the upcoming election.
