A military veteran who suffered wounds while serving his country in Afghanistan was given the keys for a newly renovated, totally mortgage-free home for his family. Former U.S. Army Specialist Cody Blevins, along with his wife and their three kids, were on the Today show back in May, where they were surprised by being given their new home located in Dayton, Ohio, according to a report from local media outlet WDTN.

“It’s been beyond belief, you know, like I said, I didn’t expect anything like this,” Blevins stated during an interview with WDTN. “Then for them to give us a home, completely renovated — it’s amazing.”

Belvins first signed up for the Army in 2009. He was then sent over to Afghanistan for a six month deployment where he would assist with combat operations. He was wounded in action and received a Purple Heart.

An organization known as Military Warriors Support Foundation partnered up with Wells Fargo to give the Belvins family their new home.

Sandra Ignaszewski, who serves with the Military Warriors Support Foundation, explained that the group has helped to provide homes for a total of 900 veterans all over the United States. She then went on to explain why the home they gave to the Belvins is perfect for them.

“Cody was born and raised here in the Ohio area,” Ignaszewski said. “He knows it very well. He has the family support here that he needs, he has friends, and additionally, other services.”

Along with the new house, the Belvins family is also going to be given free financial and family mentoring. The organization has assisted veterans with paying off a whopping $27 million in debt through the mentorship program it offers. It’s also provided 150 vehicles as well.
