In a powerful post on X (formerly Twitter), famous football coach Lou Holtz, a resolute Republican and football coaching legend, praised President Donald Trump for how he and Vice President JD Vance had handled Ukrainian President Volodomyr Zelensky when he acted petulantly in the White House and reneged on a mineral rights deal struck by Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
As background, the meeting was a disaster, with Zelensky being tossed from the White House after arguing with Trump and Vance about the need for peace. Trump, posting about the meeting on Truth Social, said, “We had a very meaningful meeting in the White House today. Much was learned that could never be understood without conversation under such fire and pressure.”
He added, “It’s amazing what comes out through emotion, and I have determined that President Zelenskyy is not ready for Peace if America is involved, because he feels our involvement gives him a big advantage in negotiations. I don’t want advantage, I want PEACE. He disrespected the United States of America in its cherished Oval Office. He can come back when he is ready for Peace.”
In another post on the platform, Trump quoted Michael McCune as saying, “Now, Zelenskyy will have no choice but to back down and accept Trump’s terms. But here’s the genius part-Trump is actually protecting Ukraine without dragging the U.S. into war. By negotiating a mineral deal, Trump ensures that Americans will be involved in Ukraine’s mining industry. This prevents Russia from launching an invasion, because attacking Ukraine would mean endangering American lives-something that would force the U.S. to respond.”
He added, “Trump played both sides like a master chess player. In the end, Zelenskyy will have no choice but to concede, because without U.S. support, Ukraine cannot win a prolonged war against Russia. And once U.S. companies have mining operations in Ukraine, Putin will be unable to attack without triggering massive international consequences. Don’t underestimate Donald Trump. In this game of chess, he’s 10 moves ahead of everyone.”
In any case, Holtz’s post about Trump came in response to a tweet of Zelensky rudely snapping at Trump and Vance. That post was captioned, “This was a bit unreal to watch. A foreign leader speaking to a sitting U.S. President like this. Glad @realDonaldTrump & @JDVance are standing up for America.🇺🇸”
Reposting that, Lou Holtz praised President Trump and Vice President Vance for standing firm and putting America First. He said, “It’s moments like these that remind us of what real leadership looks like. Proud of @realDonaldTrump & @JDVance for always putting America first.” Watch Trump and Vance here:

Trump has indicated he thinks about things similarly. In one post, for example, he commented on his view that America should be thinking about defending itself, not Ukraine, saying, “We should spend less time worrying about Putin, and more time worrying about migrant rape gangs, drug lords, murderers, and people from mental institutions entering our Country – So that we don’t end up like Europe!”
In another post, he slammed Zelensky for saying that peace is “far away,” writing, “This is the worst statement that could have been made by Zelenskyy, and America will not put up with it for much longer! It is what I was saying, this guy doesn’t want there to be Peace as long as he has America’s backing and, Europe, in the meeting they had with Zelenskyy, stated flatly that they cannot do the job without the U.S. – Probably not a great statement to have been made in terms of a show of strength against Russia. What are they thinking?”
And, writing about his own record as regards the US-Ukraine relationship, he said, “The only President who gave none of Ukraine’s land to Putin’s Russia is President Donald J. Trump. Remember that when the weak and ineffective Democrat’s criticize, and the Fake News gladly puts out anything they say!”
