During a Friday, March 1 broadcast of “The Five,” reporter Katie Pavlich guest-hosted the program and got into and explosive fight with the show’s resident liberal, Jessica Tarlov, over illegal immigration and crimes committed by migrants. Tarlov attempted to show that migrant-committed crime isn’t as high as some claim, while Pavlich pointed out that many of the migrants are young men and claimed that they’re taking over some areas of cities.
Tarlov began the back-and-forth exchange by arguing that President Joe Biden would be unable to assuage critics of his border policies with anything he said, and argued that illegal immigration isn’t as big of a deal in the 2024 election as some on the right claim it will be.
After arguing that it won’t be such a big issue, Tarlov admitted, “That doesn’t mean that it isn’t affecting liberal cities.” Continuing, she noted that Gov. Abbott has made an impact by shipping so many thousand migrants to liberal cities, admitting, “Now, this Operation Lone Star, which is what Governor Abbott has done in terms of shipping migrants, has obviously made an impact.”
Tarlov then attempted to argue that migrant crime is less than the right claims, saying, “But we are not relying on the FBI data about migrant crime to say that areas that have gotten the most migrants from Operation Lone Star have lower crime rates. We have city data, and that’s what NBC News did a big investigation into that and found that to be the case. So yes, Laken Riley, it’s a terrible tragedy, but it doesn’t mean that these are all ‘bad hombres’ that are coming across. I mean, he says that they’re poisoning the country.”
At that point, Pavlich jumped in and exclaimed, “What are they here for? What are they here for?” Tarlov snapped back, “To work!” Pavlich then noted that many of the migrants are “military-aged men” and some are from China and “terror hotspots.” She said, “What are millions of single military-aged men from China, from countries where they don’t have any kind of documentation, where there are terror hotspots from all around the world? What do you think they’re here for?!”
Tarlov asked, “You think that they’re not trying to work?” Pavlich fired back, “They’re not working. They’re getting debit cards from the mayor of New York. They’re taking over hotels in Washington, DC. They’ve taken over a homeless shelter. This gang of illegal immigrants have come in and completely taken the street over.” Tarlov then attempted to put Pavlich on the defensive, snapping, “Does that mean they are poisoning the country?”
Pointing to the Laken Riley tragedy and personal anecdotes, Pavlich exploded, “They’re they’re wielding knives, I’ve seen them. They’re dealing drugs. They’re getting arrested. It’s not just Laken Riley.” She continued, “I can give you dozens of examples of people who’ve been victims of crimes over the past week. You had a two-year-old who was killed by an illegal immigrant in Maryland. You had a young woman, 14 years old, raped by an illegal immigrant in Louisiana. The list goes on and on and on. You have people, hiding all of this in the community because they’re undocumented. And the women who are in these situations, you have no voice when it comes to what’s happening.”
Pavlich then added, “Back to the visit from yesterday with President Joe Biden and then former President Donald Trump. Donald Trump was meeting with Texas DPS and the Texas National Guard, people who were actually doing something to stop this from happening, to stop these people that Joe Biden invited into the country from hurting young women and children in every city across the country. Joe Biden was meeting with political officials and Border Patrol agents who he has given orders to work against Texas. You just had the standoff in the park where they were allowing people to come in while Joe Biden stands up and demands more money from the American taxpayer not to stop dangerous people from coming into their cities, but to process more of them. That’s what he wants, and that’s what he wants Republicans to give him.”
