Following yesterday’s announcement by AG Merrick Garland, legal experts on the right have been sounding off, blasting the continual prying into Trump while ignoring all that Hunter and Joe Biden, not to mention the Clintons or Obama Administration, did do or might have done.
Sidney Powell, for instance, ripped the DOJ for its endless investigations into Trump and ignoring what Hunter might have done, saying:
“The appointment of yet another special prosecutor assigned with the specific target of Donald Trump shows the lengths to which the corrupt O’Biden administration will go to try and stop Trump.
“No one has been persecuted at taxpayer expense more relentlessly than has Trump, and the double standard is blatant. They protect Hunter and Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, and others from investigation for flagrant criminal conduct and manufacture any excuse to go after Trump.”
Just the News also quoted Geoff Shepard, a lawyer who served in the Nixon administration, as saying:
“Appointment of a special counsel is a significant step, but Garland is well within his rights to do so. The disturbing thing is that he has not already done so with regard to the Hunter Biden investigation. It reeks of a double standard and gives critics plenty of reason to object.”
Similarly, Mike Davis of the Article III Project sounded off on the announcement on Twitter, saying:
By appointing a special counsel to investigate his boss’s political enemy, Attorney General Merrick Garland continues to politicize and weaponize the Biden Justice Department — all while Garland ignores smoking-gun evidence of Biden’s foreign corruption.
Garland appointed a special counsel to investigate his boss’s political enemy, for non-crimes of objecting to the 2020 election and keeping personal copies of presidential records.
He did not appoint a special counsel to investigate clear evidence of Biden’s foreign corruption.
Davis’s posts on the subject were reposted by Trump on Truth Social.
Davis also spoke about the issue in a statement for the Article III Project, saying:
“By appointing a special counsel to investigate his boss’s top political enemy, Attorney General Merrick Garland continues to politicize and weaponize the Biden Justice Department, all while ignoring smoking-gun evidence of the Biden family’s foreign corruption. Garland announced he’s essentially giving his special counsel whatever he needs to investigate the non-crimes of objecting to a presidential election (like Democrats did in 1967, 2001, 2005, and 2017) and keeping personal copies of presidential records (like Clinton did with highly classified tapes hidden in his sock drawer), both expressly permitted by federal statutes.
“The blatant political bias within the Biden Justice Department erodes trust from the American people that justice is fairly applied to everyone, regardless of their political affiliation. Like with the politically-motivated and baseless Mueller probe, Garland knows a special counsel will unnecessarily drag on and leave a dark political cloud over Trump while he’s running for president over the next two years. Garland’s third-world election interference will no doubt make his boss happy. Indeed, Biden knows he can’t beat Trump, so he’ll simply indict him.”
Trump himself made much the same point when speaking to Fox News, saying:
“Hunter Biden is a criminal many times over and nothing happens to him. Joe Biden is a criminal many times over — and nothing happens to them.
“It is unfair to the country, to the Republican Party, and I don’t think people should accept it. I am not going to accept it. The Republican Party has to stand up and fight.”
