Speaking in an interview over the weekend before New Year’s, incoming Trump Administration Border Czar Tom Homan shared his thoughts on how the border defense effort is being readied before the Trump-Vance Administration even enters office. Doing so, he noted that he’s already started meeting with law enforcement and relevant state authorities.
As background, Mr. Homan is a longtime Homeland Security official and is generally known for his unrepentant takes on defending the border from the illegal immigration crisis. He has so far been one of the incoming 47th president’s most celebrated picks amongst the MAGA base, as he is a real hardliner on the key issues of preventing further illegal immigration and deporting those illegal immigrants here already.
In any case, speaking to Fox News’ David Asman over the weekend, Mr. Homan said that he is already getting to work and meeting with authorities. He said, “Look, we’re not waiting. I’ve already been to the border several times, met with Gov. [Greg] Abbott; I met with the National Sheriffs’ Association, what they can do for us.”
Continuing, he noted that he’s been in meetings from Canada to Arizona about defending America’s borders. He said, “I’ve talked to the foreign minister of Canada, and I’ve been out to Arizona talking to the of sheriffs out there. So we’re not waiting for January 20th. We’re going to try to secure the border as quick as we can, and we’ve already started working on those plans.”
Asman, chiming in, noted that the sanctuary cities that dot America remain seemingly unrepentant and unworried by Homan and Trump. He said, “Now, you may have gotten the attention of our neighbors north and south, but you still haven’t gotten the full attention of a lot of the sanctuary cities and states in the United States.”
Giving an example, and asking what’s going on as regards dealing with those cities, he asked, “We just had a recent example of it with The Bronx — excuse me, the Brooklyn DA not dealing with the detaining order from [Immigration and Customs Enforcement] for this horrific crime that took place last Sunday where a woman was burnt to death by, allegedly by an illegal alien who’s now the suspect in the case. ICE put a detainer on him, and it wasn’t accepted by the Brooklyn DA. What’s going on with that?”
Homan responded. by claiming that even New York City Mayor Eric Adams has shown a willingness to work with the Trump Administration, at least on some issues. He said, “I had a meeting with[New York City] Mayor [Eric] Adams a few weeks ago. He said he wants to work with us on public safety threats. He’s committed to doing that. He’s also willing to help us find over 300,000 missing children, many are in New York City.”
Homan added, “But you know, he was very honest when he was saying he’s got a city council he needs to deal with, and he’s going to do what he can through executive order. But I’m hoping he’s a man of his word and he’s going to push for the actions that we discussed that day. Any elected official, even a district attorney, anybody in that city, you should want to remove public safety threats from your communities.”
