Lou Holtz is one of college football’s most decorated, successful coaches. Holtz coached for 33 years at Arkansas and Notre Dame. He guided the Fighting Irish from 1986 to 1996, finishing with a 110-30-2 record. He also brought the last National Championship to South Bend in 1988, leading the school to an undefeated season and a Fiesta Bowl win.
The 87-year-old College Football Hall of Famer recently posted an interesting message on X that many believe tipped his hand regarding who he may be backing in the November presidential race. It is assumed at this point that incumbent 81-year-old Joe Biden will have the Democrat nomination, barring his untimely passing or, more unlikely, his acknowledgment that he is too old for the job.
On the Republican side, despite Nikki Haley’s absurd insistence on wasting donors’ money, she continues to stay in the race despite Donald Trump leading her in every poll. However, barring anything foolish like an actual conviction on one of the ridiculous cases Biden’s weaponized DOJ has leveled against him, it is assumed that former President Trump will be the challenger in November.
Lou Holtz has been a Trump supporter in the past, and based on a recent post on social media, it looks like he is still riding the Trump Train. Holtz posted on X Wednesday: “We need to coach America back to greatness!” That is, of course, a play on the ‘Make America Great Again” slogan that Trump coined and has driven liberals to madness since 2016.
Holtz, a conservative, spoke at the 2020 Republican National Convention and was bestowed one of the highest honors in the land by President Trump shortly after the controversial 2020 election. Holtz said at the time: “It’s the highest honor or award you could receive, and I receive it with mixed emotions. First of all, I’m humbled. There are many more people far more worthy than me, I can assure you. Nobody is more appreciative than me. So, I’m excited to have this opportunity and to receive it from President Trump. The president I admire and respect. I think he did a tremendous job.”
The Presidential Medal of Freedom is the highest civilian award designed to recognize citizens who have made “an especially meritorious contribution to the security or national interests of the United States, world peace, cultural or other significant public or private endeavors.” Trump thought Holtz’s cultural impact merited the award, and Holtz talked about his disappointment after the election in 2020.
The legendary coach continued: “I’m sad he’s not going to be with us for another four years because he has done so much for this country, and he cares about it, so I stand here very proudly to accept this award from President Trump.” Holtz also called President Trump “one of the great presidents of my lifetime.” Considering how old the former coach is, perhaps folks should listen to him as he has seen more than his share of presidents.
Watch him here:
President Trump continues to rack up endorsements from celebrities and sports figures. While Holtz stopped short of openly endorsing the former president, his cryptic post says enough. Coach wants Donald Trump back in the game, and hopefully, so does most of the rest of America.
