During a rally in Allentown, Pennsylvania, former president and 2024 Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump received an endorsement from Republican Puerto Rico Shadow Sen. Zoraida Buxó, who helped neutralize the backlash over a joke made about Puerto Rico by a comedian at Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally.
As background, at the October 27 Madison Square Garden rally, “Kill Tony” podcast Tony Hinchcliffe said, “I don’t know if you guys know this. But there’s literally a floating island of garbage in the middle of the ocean right now.” He added, “Yeah — I think it’s called Puerto Rico.”
Predictably, that set off the left and its media apparatus went berserk over the joke. So, Buxó appeared at the rally and endorsed Trump, helping diminish the tide of fury that swept up from some corners of the left and supposed conservatives in the final week before the critical election.
During the rally speech, Buxó called on her fellow hispanics to make a difference in the election, saying, “We hispanics are part of the soul of this country. We have made a difference, and we will again make a difference in this coming election to bring about much-needed change.”
Continuing, Buxó warned listeners, “It is easy to get distracted or misled by propaganda, emotional manipulation, and distortion of the truth and facts.” She added that they should ignore the propaganda and focus on what is actually important, saying, “watch out and stay focused on what is truly important when you go to cast your vote.”
Adding to that, she emphasized that the left’s ticket for this election is beyond awful, telling listeners that Harris-Walz are the opposite of what is needed. She said, “We need change and Kamala Harris and Tim Walz are not the option to bring about the kind of change that you need and want.” Watch her here:
Trump, speaking during the rally on how he helped Puerto Ricans, said, “I’ve done more for Puerto Rico than any president by far — nobody close. I provided historic funding and the hospital ship when they were hit with a couple of really bad [hurricanes] right in a row. And we got the ship over there with thousands of rooms actually. It was amazing: a floating hospital, the biggest in the world.”
Additionally, Tim Ramos, a former GOP candidate for mayor of Allentown and Puerto Rican, commented on Puerto Rico’s heritagane and history, saying, “We have a proud heritage — a heritage that has seen our men fight in every war this nation has ever waged. We are a beautiful people from a beautiful island.” He added, “We need a leader who understands that and sees that in us. Donald Trump is that leader.”
Harris, for her part, has attacked Trump in an ad, saying, “I will never forget what Donald Trump did. He abandoned the island and offered nothing more than paper towels and insults. Puerto Ricans deserve better. As president, I will always fight for you and your families and together, we can chart a new way forward.”
