Speaking to Fox News Digital, actor and singer Donnie Wahlberg, brother of Mark Wahlberg, and his wife Jenny McCarthy joked about how they “shudder” about being labeled a “Hollywood couple” because of the extremely short shelf life of such marriages. Further, they said that they live normal lives and do their best to focus on “family and love” rather than the sorts of things with which the typical Hollywood types are obsessed.
Those comments came when Wahlberg, who has been married to the former Playboy model for nearly a decade, having been married in August of 2014, spoke about why he doesn’t like being considered to be in a “Hollywood” marriage with McCarthy. Explaining why, he noted that such marriages are nearly always short and expected from the start to not last, something he doesn’t want to be thought of about his marriage.
Speaking to Fox News Digital about his marriage and the “Hollywood couple” descriptor, Wahlberg said, “We’re proud of the fact that we’re a successful couple.” He continued, speaking about the typical assumptions that come with Hollywood marriages, “We kind of shudder at the term Hollywood couple. Like, when we got together and people were like, ‘New Hollywood couple, they’ll last two years.'”
Turning to why that descriptor is inaccurate as applied to his marriage with McCarthy, Wahlberg added that their entertainment careers have nothing to do with their marriages and they are little involved with Hollywood. He said, “We’re like, first of all, we’re going to last more than two years. Second of all, we’re not a Hollywood couple. We’re a couple. Hollywood has nothing to do with our relationship and, frankly, we have very little to do with Hollywood.”
Further emphasizing their lack of ties to Hollywood and what he sees their marriage as being about as opposed to the usual Hollywood values, he said, “We live in Illinois. She’s from Chicago, I’m from Boston and our relationship is not about Hollywood. It’s about home and family and love.”
Continuing, he commented on what helps them make their marriage a success, something very much not the case with other Hollywood couples. Speaking on that, he said, “First of all, we’re very, very much in love. Two things that really have helped us the most is we put our relationship first in our lives despite the fact that we’re both very busy. We really put our relationship first in the decisions we make in our careers. We consult each other.”
Giving an example of how supportive McCarthy is, Wahlberg told Fox News Digital that she helped encourage him to get involved with Bioheat, a heating solution for homes based on plants rather than fossil fuels. He said, “She was a big proponent of me doing the Bioheat [fuel] situation. I talked to her about it, and she said, ‘I love how you feel about it. I love your curiosity about it. I think it’s a great thing for you to do.‘”
Then, turning from relationship to business, Wahlberg described what Bioheat is supposed to do, saying, “Here’s this product that’s come along that gives them a chance to do something to help create a cleaner environment without turning their life upside down, without breaking their bank. I think most people, whether you’re on the green side of things or the other side of this conversation, everybody wants to be cleaner and do their part to make a cleaner environment.”
