Though Hallmark was once the channel to which moms across the country turned to put on fun, family-friendly entertainment over the Christmas season, it has drifted left in recent years and left behind some of its faith-focused stars, such as Candace Cameron Bure. Bure is now working with Great American Family to create and promote faith-based entertainment.
Bure, who famously left Hallmark so that she could put her faith first, recently sat down for an interview alongside Bill Abbot, the CEO of Great American Family, with Fox News Digital. In the interview, she explained why the company puts faith first and what American culture needs.
During the interview, Bure described America as currently being a “cultural desert,” saying, “I think we want to create an oasis in a cultural desert.” CEO Abbott responded, “I think that the culture overall needs it. And there is just so little content out there that serves family and faith and is done in a quality way. And so that is a very big part of what our mission is and what we do, and the demand is huge.”
Continuing, Bure spoke about the other topic the channel is prioritizing this Christmas season: service members. Bure is starring in “My Christmas Hero,” a film about an Army reserve doctor which will premiere on the day after Thanksgiving.
Bure, speaking about how service members have reacted to the content, said, “They really are appreciative that we honor faith, family and country and that we are pro-country and we love America and we’re grateful for their service. So I know it means a lot to them that we honor them and we want to in really big ways because we know that we wouldn’t be here in peace without them.”
Continuing, Bure added that the Great American Family Channel’s choice of subject matter was meant to show its gratitude and appreciation to service members. In her words: “So this is just a small gesture of appreciation on our end.”
That wasn’t all. Bure also spoke about getting to premier the film on the Joint Army and Air Force Base Lewis-McChord, where it was set, saying that it’s incredible to get to be around the smiling service members and bring their families together.
She said, “It’s a joy to be here. We’ve met many people, [with] huge smiles on their faces, which are bringing us so much joy. But I know that they’re really happy that we’re here. And it’s a place where their whole family can come to watch the movie tonight. And that’s special for us because that’s who our movies are for, the whole family together.”
CEO Abbott joined Bure in thanking the service members and commenting on their dedication to duty. He said, “What comes across for me is the dedication that these military members have [shown]. It’s remarkable how the service of the country is so passionate and so authentic and such a part of their DNA. And we feel very, very blessed to have people like that protecting the country.” Continuing, he added, “And our network is all about celebrating faith, family and country. And so it’s a privilege to be here.”
