WATCH: Woke Massachussetts Governor, Far-Left Boston Mayor Get Thunderously Booed at Red Sox Home Opener

Massachusetts Democratic Gov. Maura Healey and Boston Mayor Michelle Wu got less than a warm welcome by fans at the Red Sox home opener, a surprising reaction from an area that is well-known for being deep blue. The two Democratic politicians took to the field at Fenway Park before the game against the San Diego Padres for a pregame ceremony, when the crowd of over 36,000 made their true feelings about the two women abundantly clear.

The folks in attendance at the game rained down boos on the women as they took the field. Footage of the incident was shared on social media, where it quickly went viral, with conservatives loving to see the governor and the mayor get roasted and doused with booing in such a public way.

The incident was entertaining and meaningful enough that Republican hopefuls running against the governor were given a much-needed boost in morale from what they saw on video. In fact, Brain Shortsleeve, the 2026 Republican gubernatorial candidate in Massachusetts, posted on X about the incident and the crowd’s reaction.

“Hey, everybody, coming to you from Fenway Park. Here’s a quick update: It’s a beautiful afternoon. The Red Sox are up by one. Maura Healey and Michelle Wu just got booed very loudly,” he said. In a follow-up post, Shortsleeve went on to write, “It was even louder in person!” Another candidate, Mike Minogue, said, “Looks like fans want someone else up to bat.”

According to a report from Fox News, GOP candidate Mike Kennealy also posted on X, saying, “Man, I love Red Sox Nation!” Other conservative accounts and personalities chimed in to say much the same thing, delighting at the governor’s discomfiture and the mayor’s humiliation at the hands of the crowd.

The day before the game, Healey issued a demand that two private airline companies stop providing flights for Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers to quickly remove illegal aliens they detained, citing ICE-related shootings in Minneapolis as the reason for her concern.

In October 2025, an aide working for Healey was arrested for selling cocaine after investigators intercepted several packages containing the illegal substance slated to be delivered to a state office building where the aide worked, according to prosecutors working on the case. Boston Mayor Michelle Wu has also found herself deep in the waters of controversy on several occasions.

In February 2026, Wu leveled accusations against federal immigration officers of conducting “unconstitutional” operations in Boston, going on to order surveillance and body camera footage to be publicly released to prove her point. In an official post from the city’s website, Wu announced an executive order she signed.

The order contains directions to city officials on how they can protect residents from what the post refers to as “illegal federal overreach,” while informing them to make de-escalation a top priority. It also states that “Boston will hold anyone accountable who commits violence, property damage, or any criminal conduct in the City, including federal officials.”

“Boston stands in solidarity with communities across the region to protect our residents amid the attacks of a reckless and dangerous federal administration,” Mayor Michelle Wu went on to say about her anti-ICE executive order. “Our City will take every action to de-escalate, ensure safety, and protect the people of Boston.” Conservative voters feel the incident is a reflection of the turning tide in deep blue states away from Democratic policies which have failed to address the concerns of the average American.
