In a shocking segment on Friday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “José Díaz-Balart Reports,” Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) went on the attack against Trump ally and Director of National Intelligence (DNI) pick Tulsi Gabbard, accusing her of likely being a “Russian asset.” That smear of Tulsi has been used before, mainly because of her anti-war, anti-foreign intervention stance.
Trump, as background, appointed Tulsi as DNI. Beginning, his statement about Tulsi’s appointment provided, “I am pleased to announce that former Congresswoman, Lieutenant Colonel Tulsi Gabbard, will serve as Director of National Intelligence (DNI). For over two decades, Tulsi has fought for our Country and the Freedoms of all Americans. As a former Candidate for the Democrat Presidential Nomination, she has broad support in both Parties – She is now a proud Republican!”
Continuing, he noted that she has strong opinions on defending our constitutional rights, saying, “I know Tulsi will bring the fearless spirit that has defined her illustrious career to our Intelligence Community, championing our Constitutional Rights, and securing Peace through Strength. Tulsi will make us all proud!”
Schultz was furious at the idea that Tulsi will have such power. Beginning, she snapped, “Tulsi Gabbard is someone who has met with war criminals, violated the Department of State’s guidance, and secretly, clandestinely, went to Syria and met with Assad, who gassed and attacked his own people with chemical weapons. She’s considered to be, essentially, by most assessments, a Russian asset. And would be the most dangerous –.”
Cutting Rep. Wasserman Schultz off, MSNBC host José Díaz-Balart cut in and asked if she views Gabbard as a Russian asset, as she said in her rant about Tulsi’s alleged relationship with Syria and Assad from when the Syrian Civil War was a hot-button issue. She said, “Is that how you consider her? Is that what you consider her?”
Replying in the affirmative, Rep. Wasserman Schultz said that there is “no question” that Tulsi is essentially a traitor. She told him, “Oh, yes. There’s no question, I consider her someone who is likely a Russian asset, who would be, as the DNI, responsible for managing our entire intelligence community, hold all of our most significant intelligence information and secrets, and, essentially, would be a direct line to our enemies.” Watch her here:
Sounding off on Wasserman Schultz’s claims about Tulsi, conservative X (formerly Twitter) personality Greg Price said, “Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz says that Tulsi Gabbard is a ‘Russian asset.’You simply should not be allowed to defame somebody like this on cable TV without consequences.”
On much the same note as Wasserman Schultz, Abigail Spanberger, a former CIA case officer who is now a House Democrat on the intelligence committee, said, in a post on X, “The objections to her nomination transcend partisan politics. This is a matter of national security. Someone who has aligned herself with Vladimir Putin and Bashar al-Assad and trafficked in Russian-backed conspiracy theories is an unsuitable and potentially dangerous selection.”
