In a dramatic interview with the press, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt recounted how workers at the United States Institute of Peace (USIP) sought to defy the Trump administration’s takeover through sabotage. During a question-and-answer segment, Leavitt schooled a woke reporter by explaining how these “rogue bureaucrats” engaged in flagrant defiance of the law.
For context, DOGE was struggling to hold the USIP accountable for windspread fraud, which included massive payments to Iran and the Taliban. However, the fight to gain access to their $500 million facility escalated to the point that police were called, and the former president of USIP was shamefully escorted away by security.
Leavitt began her remarks by summarizing the story. She said, “So, on the United States Institute of Peace. This is a little bit wild. I understand. The old president refused to leave after he was removed from his position. He barricaded himself in his offices. He had to be escorted out by the police. He left the building without Wi-Fi, telephones, elevators, and more, and is now telling the media that Doge broke in and illegally removed him.”
At that point, an impertinent reporter asked a question. She demanded, “Can you comment on this sequence of events and specify, did DOGE illegally enter?” While the request might have flustered a less capable press secretary, Leavitt fired back quickly.
Responding, she said, “I’m really glad you brought this up, Mary. We were made aware of this story by individuals at DOGE, at Elon Musk’s team, and also at the State Department, who were unable to access this building. And it became very clear that there was a concerted effort amongst the rogue bureaucrats at the United States Institute of Peace to actually physically barricade themselves essentially inside of the building.”
Building on that point, she examined the motivations of the rogue USIP workers. Leavitt explained that they engaged in sabotage “to prevent political appointees of this administration who work at the direction of the president of the United States from getting into the building. There was a piece in The Daily Caller. Thank you for sharing the truth about what happened.”

Hammering away at the hapless reporter, she added. “Staff contacted the MPD in an attempt to prevent DOGE personnel from entering. They barricaded the doors. They also disabled telephone lines, internet connections, and other IT infrastructure within the building. They distributed flyers internally encouraging each other to basically prevent these individuals from accessing the building.”
Concluding her statement, Leavitt reiterated Trumps promise to reform the government. She said, “I use this to say this is what Doge and this administration is facing. It’s a resistance from bureaucrats who don’t want to see change in this city. President Trump was elected on an overwhelming mandate to seek change and implement change, and this is unacceptable behavior. Thank you”
Bolstering Leavitt’s account, DOGE announced how members of the USIP team had been escorted out of the building. It said, “Mr. Moose denied lawful access to Kenneth Jackson, the Acting USIP President (as approved by the USIP Board). @DCPoliceDept arrived onsite and escorted Mr. Jackson into the building. The only unlawful individual was Mr. Moose, who refused to comply, and even tried to fire USIP’s private security team when said security team went to give access to Mr. Jackson.”
