Things went less than great for woke actor Robert De Niro when, on Tuesday, May 28, he showed up in Manhattan to speak outside the courthouse in which Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg has brought his “hush money” case against former President Donald Trump. De Niro, when he tried rambling about “democracy,” was drowned out by Trump supporters who heckled him.
As background, De Niro is a longtime Trump-hater who has remained on the attack against former President Trump. Recently, for example, he said that he would punch Trump in the face. He also alleged that a return of Trump to the White House would mean a massive “change” to America, then began cursing and had his words silenced by the show. He said, “If he gets elected, it’s going to change this country for everybody. And they might think that it’s going to make their life better and they just want to —” After he finished cursing, the sound of which was canceled out by the show, he said, “excuse my French.”
Not done after the vulgar rant, De Niro went on to claim that Trump is “hateful” and “mean-spirited,” saying, “Those people who support him with anger and hate because that’s what he’s about. They’re going to see. I mean, I used to see these things. I didn’t understand how he and Rosie O’Donnell used to get into it. I didn’t really care. I see what a hateful, mean-spirited, awful thing he is.”
He was back at it on Tuesday with his comments about how terrible Trump is, saying that Trump is a “danger” to the lives of Americans. He said, “I hope this new ad campaign reaches outside the bubble to remind supporters of what a danger he is to our lives. This is not a threat. This is our reality. And that’s why I’ve joined the Biden-Harris campaign, because the only way to preserve our freedoms and hold on to our humanity is to vote for Joe Biden for president.”
De Niro also alleged, during his speech outside the courthouse, that, if Trump wins, elections will be gone forever in America, with Trump remaining in office and refusing to leave the position. He said, “And elections? Forget about it. That’s over. That’s done. If he gets in, I can tell you right now, he will never leave. He will never leave.”
De Niro’s rambling came alongside comments from Michael Tyler, the communications director for the Biden campaign. Tyler said, “Trump poses a unique and growing threat to our fundamental rights and our freedoms, our very democracy and our economy. The threat is crystal clear today and will remain crystal clear tomorrow. And will be crystal clear on the debate stage in Atlanta on June 27th.”
In any case, De Niro’s humiliation came when, during the speech, he rambled about Trump not just being potentially going to destroy America, but the whole world. He said, “Donald Trump wants to destroy not only the city, but the country. And eventually he could destroy the world.”
That’s when the shutdown happened, with Trump-supporting hecklers drowning him out and a nearby car horn blaring as he tried speaking, making what he was saying difficult, if not impossible, to hear. The chaos of the horn an heckling threw a wrench in his speech.
