In an absolutely hilarious, despite the tragedy surrounding it, moment that stemmed from ABC News’ coverage of the wildfires that are raging through Southern California, ABC News personality David Muir was hammered for his turning of a firefighter jacket into a much more form-fitted appearance for a news report. Muir is, of course, the ABC reporter known for his very biased moderator role in the 2024 presidential debate.
The incident at hand came during a Wednesday, January 8 “ABC World News Tonight” report about the devastating wildfires. Muir, on scene for the report, was kitted out in firefighter gear, including a yellow, fireproof jacket with the ABC News logo emblazoned on it. However, his jacket looked different than most: it was form-fitted.
But that wasn’t because of design or tailoring: like most fireproof clothing, it was originally more baggy, keeping it somewhat away from the body. Mr. Muir, however, seemingly more concerned with his appearance in the jacket than its effectiveness as a fire-resistant garment, appears to have used clothespins to make it more form-fitting.
Such was revealed on camera when Muir turned to his left, showing the clothespins attached to the jacket and keeping it looking more like a close-fitting, tailored garment than a fire-resistant jacket made to be functional rather than showing off the physique of the wearer. As a result, Muir was mocked for his apparent vanity.
Leading that commentary on Muir by posting a video clip in which the clothespins could be seen and roasting Muir for caring more about his appearance than the devastation, rock star Ozzy Osbourne’s son, Jack Osbourne, said in a post on X, “Nice Jacket Bro. Glad you look nice and svelte with those clothes line pegs, while our city burns to the ground.”
Agreeing with Osbourne and commenting on what Muir did, one commenter on Osbourne’s post said that Muir “had his fire jacket, with the built in PT belt, MODIFIED for aesthetics reasons which has to be a huge violation in the safety rules of the universe.” Another wrote, agreeing with Osbourne’s take, “What an absolute tool.”
Joining in with a post of his own featuring the same clip, conservative X personality Paul A. Szypula wrote, “ABC’s David Muir, who moderated the one debate between Trump and Harris, is caught using clothespins on a fire jacket to make himself look more svelte on camera. Just in case your opinion of @DavidMuir wasn’t already low enough.” Watch the clip here:
Commenting on Mr. Szypula’s post, one person wrote, “People are literally dying and this man is focused on looking snatched. 🙄😮💨” Agreeing, Szypula said, “Exactly. What a complete disgrace. He has no respect for anyone.” Another, commenting on Muir’s disgraceful debate performance, said, “Moderating? I thought he was one of Trump’s opponents in that debate.”
Also chiming in was Mike Cernovich, who wrote, “This make up wearing mofo used clothes pins to pull in the fire jacket he’s wearing as a prop, so he would look snacky for TV.” Agreeing, Mollie Hemingway said, “ABC News propagandist @DavidMuir was the one who got his “fact” “checks” wrong in the presidential debate. He reportedly is called “Zoolander” at his gym because of his vanity.”
