In a touching video that went viral on social media, Matthew Tkachuk, a member of the gold medal-winning Olympic hockey team, expressed his gratitude for President Trump’s statement praising the team for their decisive 2-1 overtime win over Canada in the 2026 games in Milan.

Similarly, many others on social media noted a video of the team celebrating after the win by singing the national anthem at a nightclub, or welcoming the children of a deceased teammate onto the ice to share in the dramatic victory.

In any case, Matthew Tkachuk, the medal-winning hockey player, stated, “It was an HONOR hearing from the President of the United States. Hearing he was supporting us… We’re honored to represent him and the hundreds of MILLIONS across the country, and bring the gold medal back.”

Reacting to the post, one user posted, “This is what it’s all about! American pride!” Responding, the original poster replied, “Notice how these patriots have COMPLETELY overshadowed everyone else who won a medal but rebuked their country.”

Another added, “Massive respect to Matthew Tkachuk for saying it straight. No hesitation. No apology. Just pride in representing hundreds of millions of Americans.” Likewise, one commentator noted, “Gold in Milan and a call from the Commander in Chief! 🇺🇸 This team just cemented themselves in history right next to the 1980 squad. What a moment for USA Hockey! 🥇🏒”

Reacting to the stunning win, President Trump took to Truth Social to express his well-wishes. “Congratulations to our great U.S.A. Ice Hockey team. THEY WON THE GOLD. WOW! President DONALD J. TRUMP,” the president posted.

Celebrating the nation’s massive success at the 2026 Winter Olympics, President Trump stated, “The most Gold Medals ever won by Team USA at the Olympics! President DJT,” highlighting the record-breaking results.

The team also made news for honoring late NHL star Johnny Gaudreau, who a drunk driver killed before he could compete at the games, by hoisting his iconic No. 13 jersey during a victory lap and inviting his children onto the ice.

“We wanted to get the whole family on, but it was kind of hard with the gate, so we figured we’d grab the kids. But it was a special moment seeing (their parents) Guy and Jane,” explained Zach Werenski after the iconic moment.

Building on this point, Werenski, who is an NHL star, stated, “And to see his family here supporting us and seeing his kids, bringing them on the ice, we talked about playing for him, making him proud, and I think we did that.”

Teammate Brock Faber stated, “Just shows the lasting impact he’ll forever have on this team. His jersey will always be hung up in this locker room, and just really puts things into perspective when you see those kids on the ice and his family in the stands.”
