Rep. Al Green (D-TX), who is notorious for always getting booted out of President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address for disruptive behavior, once again demonstrated how unhinged he is during a House committee meeting discussing funding for the Department of Homeland Security. Green was caught on video calling Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin a “racist” and telling him to “shut up.”
The video shows Mullin cocking his head in shock as Green continued to verbally berate him and tell him over and over again to “shut up.” At one point Mullin asks Green, “Did you just tell me to shut up?” As the gavel slammed down to try and restore order and decorum to the hearing, Green had another outburst, shouting, “It’s my time.”
“I’m not going to let anybody call me a racist chairman,” Mullin, who, unlike Green, was in complete control of his emotions, told Rep. Andrew Garbarino (R-NY), who is the chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security. Green tried to backpedal, denying he ever made that comment, before asking Garbarino to tell Mullin to “shut up.”
According to a report from Fox News, Garbarino then called for the encounter to be suspended due to Green’s explosive anger. The report then went on to provide details about Green’s lengthy history of aggressive outbursts, noting that he has been ejected from President Trump’s primetime address two years in a row.
Green is also likely upset due to losing his seat in Congress after being defeated in the Democratic primary runoff for Texas’ 18th Congressional District by freshman Rep. Christian Menefee. The loss has been attributed to redrawn district maps. As you might imagine, the comment section on the viral clip contained a number of strong opinions about Green and his penchant for losing his cool.
“This scumbag is just mad because even his constituents are tired of his s**t,” one user on Facebook wrote. “I’m going to miss him at the future State of the Union addresses. His tantrums were comical,” another individual commented. A number of posts featured images of the Geico Insurance caveman, noting the similarity in appearance between the character and Green.
Someone in the comments quipped, “IQ somewhere between a rock and a doorknob.” According to another report from WFMD, Green, 80, has spent significant time and effort over the last few years in making himself one of the Democratic Party’s most consistent adversaries of President Donald Trump. He has led six different impeachment efforts and has called on his colleagues to be more vocal and outspoken in their resistance to the America First agenda.

The video footage of the incident includes Green complaining that during the State of the Union speech in February 2026, Mullin was one of several individuals who attempted to snatch his sign that read, “Black people aren’t apes,” a reference to a controversial image shared by President Trump on social media that depicted Democrats as various animals, including the Obamas drawn as apes.
Green held up a photo of the moment and said, “A racist would depict people of color as apes. A racist would take offense at a peaceful protest. This was a peaceful protest, Mr. Secretary,” the Texas Democrat said. Political commentator Benny Johnson ripped Green for his treatment of Mullin, writing on X, “This is the modern Democratic Party in one clip. Green’s response? ‘Shut up, up, up, up. Shut up.’ No respect. No argument. No facts. No substance. Just ‘shut up’ and a temper tantrum. This is all they have left.”
