Recently, Tucker sat down for an exclusive interview with Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy. The two touched on Carlson’s firing from Fox News earlier this year, where the former anchor slammed leadership at his former employer.
At one point in the interview, Portnoy asked Tucker about his feelings toward Fox News after he had parted ways with the network. Carlson maintained that his views toward the cable news network have gone unchanged, citing his long-term employment at the company and its respectful attitude toward Tucker.
“My view on Fox hasn’t really changed they let me say whatever I want whenever I want it really for 14 years and I never stopped being grateful for that,” he said. “And then obviously I said too much. And I’m not exactly sure what I said that was bad no one ever told me but when they were like, Oh, can’t have this anymore and they fired me.”
“And I even told them as they were firing me like sure business,” he continued. “I made a pencil that I’ll never work for anyone else again. I never will. But I can’t be mad about it. I mean, they were they were great to me. Were always nice to me and one day for whatever reason they’d had enough so I wasn’t my feelings weren’t hurt. I was not expecting it.”
Tucker further explained how, for the most part, leadership at Fox News was very courteous toward him, explaining his strong relationship with the Murdochs, the owners of the network. Carlson reiterated that no one at the company truly impeded his ability to say what he wanted on air.
However, Tucker did note that there were lower-ranking leaders at the company criticizing him and his producers, claiming the company was ultimately run by “fearful women.” However, Carlson maintains that he had a strong working relationship with everyone at the company despite his refusal to censor his content.
“Well, there was always internal. I mean, the Murdochs were always nice. They never got in my way at all. They were always super nice to me. But there were, you know, small… It’s a company run by fearful women. Yeah, you know what I mean? And they were always like, you know, second-tier people who are hassling like producers, but no one ever called me. I got along with everybody, but I mean, I think they knew like the censorship was it’s not like, don’t welcome that, you know, so but they never actually gotten away of anything.”
Tucker also stated that it was overall a good thing to be fired and “humiliated” every once in a while to keep in check. “And so I really just don’t have any complaints and I will say, and I know that you’ve experienced this, you know it’s true. being humiliated in public being fired. I have been a couple of times is totally good for you. In the end, because it keeps you from thinking you’re Jesus or like getting like super crazy hubris guy, you know,” he said.
