Speaking during the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on the night of Wednesday, July 17, the eldest daughter of Donald Trump Jr., Kai Madison Trump, spoke out about her grandfather, former President Donald Trump, and how the real man is much different than what the media claims. She said that he “truly wants the best for this country.”
Kai was introduced by Don Jr., then went on to speak about how her grandpa is, despite his celebrity status, position as the former president, and many haters, just a “normal grandpa” to his grandkids. Commenting on that, Kai noted that the former president does normal grandfather things like giving them “candy and soda” and calling them to check in.
Kai’s comments on her grandpa being normal came when she argued that the Trump-hating media does all in its power to try and make the former president “seem like a different person” than he really is. It was about that other side of him that she spoke, saying that she wanted to show the other side of him, the side the media doesn’t show.
She said, “I’m speaking today to share the side of my grandpa that people don’t often see.” She continued, “To me, he’s just a normal grandpa. He gives us candy and soda when our parents aren’t looking. He always wants to know how we’re doing in school. When I made the High Honor Roll, he printed it out to show his friends how proud he was of me.”
Continuing with a funny, general tale about how involved he is in her life, she said that he will call her “during the middle of” her day at school and ask her about how her “golf game is going.” Telling the crowd how she’ll have to remind him that she is supposed to be focusing on school, she said, “I have to remind him that I’m in school, and I’ll have to call him back later.”
She then spoke about how they will play golf together and her grandpa will, playfully and funnily, try to mess with her by getting in her head as she plays. She said, “When we play golf together, if I’m not on his team, he’ll try to get inside of my head. And he’s always surprised that I don’t let him get to me, but I have to remind him I’m a Trump, too.”
And, commenting on how he inspired her to be as good and successful as she can possibly be, Kai noted of her grandpa that he pushes her onward and she might one day catch him. She said, “He always encourages me to push myself to be the most successful person I can be. Obviously, he sets the bar pretty high, but, who knows, maybe one day I’ll catch him.”
Further, speaking about the horrible assassination attempt, she said, “On Saturday, I was shocked when I heard he had been shot, and I just wanted to know if he was okay. It was heartbreaking that someone would do that to another person. A lot of people have put my grandpa through hell, and he’s still standing. Grandpa, you are such an inspiration, and I love you.”
Then, speaking about how the media mischaracterizes her grandpa but he wants to do what is best for the country, she said, “The media makes my grandpa seem like a different person, but I know him for who he is. He is very caring and loving. He truly wants the best for this country, and he will fight every single day to Make America Great Again.”
