During a Friday, December 20 appearance on Fox News Channel’s “Jesse Watters Primetime,” incoming Trump Administration Border Czar Tom Homan said that he won’t be backing down to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) as it attempts to use lawfare to block the deportation plans of President-elect Donald Trump.
As background, on November 19, the ACLU filed a lawsuit against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in which it demanded details on how it will implement what Trump has promised will be the “largest deportation program in American history.” Homan was unrepentant and not willing to back down, saying as much when he appeared on “Jesse Watters Primetime.”
Homan, commenting on what the ACLU is attempting to do and why it won’t succeed, said, “We’re going to do the job. They’re not going to stop us. They can make it difficult. They can make it less efficient. They can make it dangerous. What they need to understand, and every sanctuary city needs to understand, we can arrest a bad guy in the safety and security of a jail.”
Continuing, Homan said that the ACLU is trying to make things more dangerous for the officers involved, saying, “That’s safe for the alien. It’s safe for the officers. It’s safe for the community. But when they knowingly release a public safety threat back in the community, it puts the community at risk. It puts our agents at risk. It puts the alien at risk.”
Reiterating that the ACLU won’t be stopping him from carrying out his plans, Homan said, “For God’s sakes, we’ve been clear. We want to put public safety threats first. No one should be against removing public safety threats out of the community, especially if they’re here illegally. I find it amazing every day that I hear this stuff, but they’re not going to stop us.”
Homan further added that Trump, Noem, and himself will be taking the border situation quite seriously and not bending to the ACLU when it comes to deportations. He said, “We’re going to do this. You’re not going to stop us. I can’t wait until Kristi Noem gets to her confirmation. She’s going to be an outstanding secretary. With President Trump, her, and myself, we’ll get this done.” Watch him here:
The ACLU, on its website, has said, “These policies are inhumane – and one way Trump will aim to make them happen is by supercharging the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). That’s why we’re calling on Congress to cut funding to DHS immigration enforcement and prevent Trump from having access to the resources he needs to carry out his mass deportation plans.”
Trump has been unrepentant about the immigration issue as well. For example, as the ACLU breathlessly notes, Trump has said things like, “The Democrats say, ‘Please don’t call them animals. They’re humans.’ I said, ‘No, they’re not humans, they’re not humans, they’re animals’ … Nancy Pelosi told me that. She said, ‘Please don’t use the word animals when you’re talking about these people.’ I said, ‘I’ll use the word animal because that’s what they are.’”
