Speaking in a powerful press conference on Tuesday, January 20, President Donald Trump sounded off on Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), accusing the far-left congresswoman, known mainly for being part of the “Squad” and resolutely on the most radical fringes of the left, as being “crooked”, as shown by her skyrocketing net worth.
As background, Rep. Omar began her tenure in Congress, during which she has consistently earned less than $200,000 a year, with a negative net worth. Now, thanks in large part to a mysterious surge of capital into her husband’s investment fund, her net worth has reportedly jumped, in the space of a year, from essentially nothing to $30 million.
So, it was with that in the background, and a probe into it that is being launched by congressional Republicans on the House Oversight Committee, that President Trump sounded off on the Minnesota lawmaker of Somali descent during his White House press conference, arguing that she is “crooked” and needs to be investigated.
Commenting on the matter, Trump wondered aloud how Ilhan Omar could be worth so much money if she has been a member of Congress for much of her adult life, rather than having a real job, saying, “I was told that Ilhan Omar is worth $30 million. She never had a job. She’s a crooked congressman. So here you – it’s another one.”
Adding to that, he noted the massive scope of the fraud that has already been discovered in Minnesota, with nearly all of it committed by Somali migrants, saying, “Nobody talks about the fact that $19 billion, at a minimum, is missing in Minnesota, given to a large degree, but, by Somalians — they’ve taken it. Somalians. Can you imagine?”
Still not done, he suggested that the Somalis might not be the ones behind the schemes, but rather are just the ones who get a cut of the stolen proceeds from the real fraudsters. He said, “And they don’t do it. A lot of very low-IQ people, they don’t do it. Other people work it out, and they get them money, and they go out and buy Mercedes-Benzes.”
Continuing, he commented on the dysfunction of Somalia, particularly its lack of things like effective government and national wealth. He said, “They have no money. They never had money. They never had a life. They never had a government. They never had a country because there’s basically no country.”

Concluding on much the same point, the president said, “Somalia is not even a country. They don’t have anything that resembles a country. And if it is a country, it’s considered just about the worst in the world. They come here, and they become rich, and they don’t have a job.“
