President-elect Donald Trump was questioned about his plans to pardon January 6 protestors during his press conference at Mar-a-Lago Tuesday morning, in which he flipped the script on a reporter. After being asked if he would pardon anyone who attacked a police officer, Trump highlighted the death of Ashli Babbitt, pointing out that lethal force was only perpetrated against his supporters.
When questioning Trump at the press conference, a reporter noted that “police officers were injured by rioters on January 6.” She asked, “Will you pardon anyone who attacked a police officer?” Responding, Trump said, “Well, you know, the only one that was killed was a beautiful young lady and Ashley Babbitt, she was killed.”
The president-elect mentioned that another one of his supporters was tragically killed as well. “And there was actually somebody else that was killed, also a MAGA person.” Trump emphasized that these two deaths are seemingly left out of the narrative when January 6 is discussed. “But people don’t give it 100% credibility,” he asserted.
Slamming the actions that led to Babbitt’s death and suggesting he will further investigate the matter Trump said, “I’m going to find out about it, and we’re going to find out. But Ashley Babbitt was killed. She was shot. She had never been shot. She was shot for no reason whatsoever. In fact, they say that she was trying to hold back the crowd, and the crowd is made up of a lot of different people, so we’ll see.”
“But I will tell you this, the person that was was killed was Ashli Babbittt,” Trump doubled down. Furthermore, Trump highlighted that there were never insurrection charges in the first place while highlighting no weapons involved. “But the other thing is, when they talk, you know, there was never charges of insurrection or anything like that. But if there were, this would be the only insurrection in history where people went in as insurrectionists with not one gun.”
Building on this point, Trump said, “And let me tell you, the people that you’re talking about have a lot of guns in their home for hunting and for shooting and for entertainment, and a lot of good reasons, but there wasn’t one gun that they found.” Calling out the FBI, Trump then said, “And why didn’t they find the bomber, the pipe bomber? You know, they know who the pipe bomber is. The FBI knows who it is. The status of the FBI has gone down so far.”
Throughout the rest of his press conference, Trump promised to revive the United States and bring about a “golden age of America” through his Make America Great Again agenda. As Trump’s inauguration is less than two weeks away, millions of Americans are eager for the president-elect to return to the White House and restore order in America.
