During a White House meeting with FIFA President Gianni Infantino on the 2026 World Cup, President Trump expressed concerns over safety in Seattle under its new “very liberal slash communist” mayor-elect, Katie Wilson. Additionally, he threatened that if any issues arise, he would ask FIFA to relocate matches to a safer, more appreciative city.
Responding, Infantino emphasized safety as the top priority, and noted record-breaking ticket sales (which he says reflect global trust in U.S. security. On social media, a conservative post highlighted Trump’s threat to move games due to the “communist mayor.” Seattle officials disputed these comments, claiming that ongoing preparations are underway for a safe event.
Beginning his reasonable comments, President Trump said, “Yeah, if we think there’s going to be the sign of any trouble, I would ask Johnny to move that to a different city. We have a lot of cities that are what we would love to have number one, and we’ll do it very safely.”
Making it clear that Seattle would lose the sporting event if conditions were too dangerous, the president added, “So if we think there’s a problem in Seattle where you have a very, very liberal slash communist mayor, I would say, you know, it’s certainly beyond just liberal.”
Savaging the woke mayor, Trump continued. “I watched her over the weekend. Well, that’s another beauty we got there. But if we think there’s going to be a problem, we’ll Johnny, can I say we will move I don’t think you’re going to have this problem, but we’re going to move the event to someplace where it’s going to be appreciated and safe,” he said.
Responding to Trump’s comments, Gianni Infantino, the FIFA President, provided additional context. “Yeah, well, I think safety and security are the number one priority for a successful World Cup. We can see today that people have trust in the United States when we look at the tickets, ticket sales, we sold, I mean, record-breaking figures of tickets.”
Buildong on this point, he stated that, “Almost 2 million already sold out of 2 million that you have been selling. This is because people know that they will be coming here and they will experience a safe and secure World Cup.”

Turning to other Trump officials, Infantino kept going. “This is the responsibility, of course, of the government, of Secretary Noem, of everyone. And obviously we will. I mean, we will discuss we are working together. We have a task force for this, and we must ensure that all fans coming from abroad or being here can experience a celebration of coming together,” the FIFA president declared.
