President Donald Trump continued to prove himself to be a person who will not take the assaults of the mainstream media, which tends to lean pretty hard to the left, without fighting back against their corrupt bias, taking on prominent CNN journalist Kaitlan Collins, who he has had many encounters with in the past, by reminding her that she wasn’t supposed to be covering him at the United Nations.
“It’s an honor to be here,” President Trump said as he walked through the doors of the United Nations ahead of his speech to the General Assembly, facing Collins and saying, “I’m surprised that CNN is here covering me. You should not be here covering me. You said you weren’t going to cover me.” During the exchange, Collins ignored Trump’s comments and asked a question about the war in Iran.
“Two-thirds of Americans don’t think that the U.S. is winning the war with Iran. When will it end?” Collins asked the president. “We’re making a lot of progress. Our country is doing really, really well. Thank you very much,” Trump said in response. During an on-air report later in the day, Collins clarified that CNN never said they would stop covering the president.
According to WCAX, the Trump administration banned CNN, Politico, and MS NOW from the White House grounds just a few days prior, having grown sick and tired of dealing with constant false and twisted narratives from news networks more concerned with being propaganda makers than truth tellers. However, much to Trump’s chagrin, the U.N. allowed CNN to enter the building as regularly credentialed media.
Things have grown so contentious between the Trump administration and the media, that the ban is now the subject of a joint lawsuit that was filed by all three outlets, referring to the decision as selective, meaning it was based on the content of their coverage, requesting the judge to rule the move unconstitutional.
The administration has responded to the lawsuit by asking the court to reject the outlets’ request, stating that “access to the White House is a privilege — not a right.” The government then argued that White House officials can control journalists’ access to “restricted presidential areas,” such as the Oval Office. “Significantly, Presidents have long decided which journalists should receive privileged access, which has varied substantially by administration,” they said.
President Trump has continued to double down on his comments about the negative coverage he receives from major news networks and publications, calling it dangerous for the country. When he was asked if he would allow the three outlets back in if the court rules against the White House, the president said, “Well, it probably will, because this is a judge who’s not a particularly fair judge.”

The judge in question is Judge Timothy Kelly, whom he appointed to the bench in 2017 and who ruled against him by ordering a CNN journalist’s access restored in a similar case from 2018. “So you never know,” Trump said. “I think we have a right to clean out fake news.” Trump then referred to “purposely negative stories” as justification for the ban.
