Shortly after President Donald Trump announced his appointment as interim US Attorney for the District of New Jersey, Alinna Habba, formerly his personal attorney, went scorched earth, one of her first remarks in her new position made it clear that she means business and is not here to mess around with liberal nonsense, immediately calling out Senator Cory Booker for the seedy condition that Democrat-run New Jersey is in.
Senator Cory Booker, a prominent figure in Democratic politics, has represented New Jersey in the US Senate since 2013 and previously served as the mayor of Newark from 2006 to 2013. Newark has long struggled with crime rates significantly higher than national averages since the city’s Democrat-led policies have failed to address public safety effectively.
Governor Phil Murphy, on the other hand, has served as governor of New Jersey since 2018 and is a perfect example of failed Democratic leadership. He faces criticism from conservatives who claim his progressive policies have exacerbated statewide issues such as rising crime rates, economic disparity, and allegations of systemic corruption.
During her remarks at the White House following her appointment, Habba explicitly targeted Senator Cory Booker and Governor Phil Murphy, accusing them of presiding over widespread crime and corruption in the state. Habba vowed to leverage her new position to address these issues, declaring they would stop now, publicly embracing her new role with a sharp focus on criminal justice issues in New Jersey.
Formally introducing herself to her new position, Habba emphasized her longstanding commitment to President Trump and addressed her urgency in tackling the state’s crime and corruption problems head-on while throwing shade at Sen. Booker and Gov. Murphy. Speaking directly to reporters at the White House, she said, “Good morning. I’m sure you’ve seen President Trump has just put out a statement that he has appointed me as the interim US Attorney for the state of New Jersey, my home state. As you know, I’ve stood by President Trump, his family, the organization, and many other clients in that state where I was born and raised. I’m raising my babies now, but there is corruption, there is injustice, and there is a heavy amount of crime right in Cory Booker’s backyard and right under Governor Murphy, and that will stop.”
In accepting her new role, Habba emphasized her dedication to reinforcing President Trump’s vision for justice and accountability, as well as working with Attorney General Pam Bondi. She continued, adequately remarking, “I look forward to working with Pam Bondi with the Department of Justice and making sure that we further the President’s agenda of putting America first, cleaning up the mess, and going after the people that we should be going after, not the people that are falsely accused. That will stop in the great state of New Jersey, starting now. Thank you so much. We’ll see when I get in there. We got to see what’s going on.”
Habba went on to directly criticize New Jersey’s current leadership, particularly highlighting Senator Cory Booker and Governor Phil Murphy for what she described as their failure to address the state’s persistent crime issues adequately. She finished her address by saying, “I think Cory Booker and Governor Murphy have failed the state of New Jersey. If you look at what happened in crime, what’s going on in Newark, what’s going on in Camden, this has been a neglected state. It is one of the most populated states for its size, and it needs to stop. We’re going to do a bang-up job. I cannot wait. It’s a great honor.”

Supporters were thrilled about Habba’s aggressive stance on crime and corruption, spouting that it is precisely what New Jersey needs. Many online praised her as a qualified attorney prepared to take decisive action; a user on X noted, “Alina Habba’s appointment is a gut punch to the corrupt elite. She’s a fighter, not a bureaucrat, and New Jersey’s swamp won’t drain itself. Crime and injustice festered under Booker’s watch, time’s up.”
