In the wake of the emergence of shocking footage that appears to show supplies for the border wall being towed away and apparently sold at the behest of the Biden-Harris Administration, President-elect Donald Trump has issued a stark warning to the Biden Administration, demanding in the video warning that it desist from the alleged sell-off policy.
As background, the video footage at issue was obtained by the Daily Wire. In that footage, border wall materials were being towed close to the town of Tuscon, an area where surplus government equipment is sold through the auction marketplace GovPlanet. In 2023, similar border wall materials were sold through GovPlanet. Speaking to the Daily Wire, a border patrol agent said, “They are taking it from three stations: Nogales, Tucson and Three Points. The goal is to move all of it off the border before Christmas.”
Posting about the matter on Truth Social, Trump said, “Joe Biden keeps talking about a smooth transition and unified government, and yet he races to sell desperately needed border wall for pennies on the dollar. It will cost the U.S. a fortune, and time, to get the exact same wall to replace what has been sold, and the new wall will cost triple the price. It is CRAZY, and must be stopped.”
He also issued a video about the matter. In that video, one issued on Monday the 16th of December during a press conference from his Mar-a-Lago club and home, the border protection-focused president-elect demanded Biden “stop selling the wall,” and alleged that the sale is an “almost a criminal act.”
In the Monday video, the president-elect accused President Biden of “selling the wall,” saying, “I’m asking today, Joe Biden, to please stop selling the wall.” Continuing, Trump noted that the cost of the supplies is significantly higher than it once was, saying, “It’s very expensive, and now it’s about double the price of what it would have been six years ago.”
Building on that, he explained that the administration is selling the supplies for far less than he thinks those supplies are worth, saying, “And the (Biden) administration is trying to sell it for five cents on the dollar ‒ knowing that we’re getting ready to put it up. And what they’re doing is really an act ‒ it’s almost a criminal act.”
Further, the president-elect again noted the much higher present cost of materials than those now being auctioned off were bought for, saying, “They know we’re going to use it. And if we don’t have it, we’re going to have to rebuild it, and it’ll cost double what it cost years ago, and that’s hundreds of millions of dollars because you’re talking about a lot of a lot of wall.”
Continuing, the president-elect noted that while it has so far been “a friendly transition” between the outgoing and incoming administrations, this is different. Slamming the Biden Administration for the move, Trump said, “Just think about how ridiculous it is. And this is just people who don’t want this country to succeed.”
Watch him here:
An official with the Department of Defense said the supplies being sold were originally offered to border states but that not all of the supplies were taken and that it was more cost-effective to sell those supplies that remained than store them. That DOD official said, “The material currently being sold through GOVPLANET online auctions no longer belongs to the U.S. Government, and DoD has no legal authority to recall the material or stop further resale of material it no longer owns.”
