President Donald Trump is known for his epic clashes with the left-leaning media, never backing down from an attack when they come after him over practically everything under the sun. A recent encounter with ABC News proved that he’s still not a man to be trifled with, especially when it comes from ABC News, as one reporter learned the hard way.
During a signing ceremony, a reporter with the network, which the president has previously sued for their inaccurate reporting, a case that he won, attempted to ask Trump a question and refer to a plane that was given to the military as a “personal gift.” He was not having any of it. “What do you say to people who view that luxury jet as a personal gift to you? Why not leave it?” the reporter asked.
Trump wasted no time hammering the network by referring to it as a producer of fake news. “You’re ABC fake News, right? Why not? Because only ABC. Well, a few of you would,” the president said, before really ripping into the network. “Let me tell you, you should be embarrassed asking that question. They’re giving us a free jet.”
“I could say no, no, no. Don’t give us — I want to pay you a billion or 400 million or whatever it is, or I could say thank you very much,” President Trump told the reporter. He then brought up an old golf pro by the name of Sam Snead, who won a staggering 82 tournaments during his time on the green, mentioning that Snead has a sage motto he used to live by.
“You know, there was an old golfer named Sam Snead. Did you ever hear him? He won 82 tournaments. He was a great golfer, and he had a motto: When they give you a putt, you say thank you very much. You pick up your ball and you walk to the next hole,” the president said. He then pointed out the idiocy of not accepting such a gift, referring to those who would decline it as “stupid.”
“A lot of people are stupid. They say no, no. I insist on putting it. Then they putt it and they miss it, and their partner gets angry at them. You know what? Remember that Sam Snead. When they give you a putt, you pick it up and you walk to the next hole and you say thank you very much,” Trump concluded. A clip of the interaction was shared on Facebook, where folks sounded off on the president’s answer.
“A gift given in the spirit is a gift and you say, thank you and when it’s something other than a gift is when you say, no thank you…simple as 1,2,3 what misleading fake reporter, who works against America’s success,” a user commented. “They act like he is either taking it with him when he leaves or he isn’t leaving,” another individual said.
