Speaking during an appearance on Fox News Channel’s “Gutfeld!” program with host Greg Gutfeld, former President Donald Trump shared a wild anecdote about Minnesota Governor and 2024 Kamala Harris running mate Tim Walz. The anecdote stemmed from what Trump said was the only time he spoke with Walz. The episode got 4.9 million viewers, meaning it set “Gutfeld!” program history as having the largest audience ever for the program.
The comment came as the two discussed Gov. Walz and his peculiarities and history as governor of Minnesota. Former President Trump, commenting on the governor and Harris running mate, noted, in response to what host Greg Gutfeld was saying about him, “Yeah, he’s a strange guy.” Then, Trump launched into his story about Gov. Walz, which is somewhat different from what the transcript of their call shows, but still quite funny.
He said, speaking of when he was in the White House as president, that protesters were outside the Minnesota governor’s mansion with American flags, and Gov. Walz called Trump for help. He said, “You know, he called up years ago. I was in the White House, and he said, ‘My house is being surrounded by people with American flags.”
Continuing, the former president told Gutfeld, “I said, ‘Is that a good thing or a bad thing? He said, ‘I think they’re going to attack me.’” Trump added, as an aside, that “this was during the riots and everything.” He then noted what the American flags show, saying, “They were MAGA people. You know, they like the American flag.”
Trump then added that Gov. Walz wanted him to say that they were friends so that the protesters with flags would go away. Trump said, “He said, ‘could you put out a word, like, that I’m your friend?’” Trump claimed that he put out a tweet to help Walz, also saying, “I don’t even know him, but that’s the only time I ever spoke to him.”
Watch their discussion about that here:
Gutfeld, during their discussion, also spoke about the second assassination attempt on the former president and the media’s role in it, saying, “It’s interesting to see the response to this second attempt. Every time you’re under a bigger threat, the media still blame you even more. It’s almost as if they don’t see their own role in this.” “Have you just basically accepted this is a fact?” he then asked.
In response, Trump told him, “I think so, yeah. The media is extremely dishonest, extremely corrupt, actually. Look at the debate. I walked off, I said: ‘That’s it.’ You know, they said, I’m the G.O.A.T. in debates because I had a lot of debates and I became president and the G.O.A.T. means Greatest Of All Time. And I walked off that stage and I thought I had the best debate and I was very unfairly treated by the anchor. I’m not a fan of those guys anymore.”
