WATCH: Trump Floats Major Move that Could Doom Democrats Electorally in 2026 and Beyond

In recent remarks, President Donald Trump, with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, proposed redoing the 2020 census, pointing out how it massively favored Democratic states. One of Trump’s executive orders has removed noncitizens from the count, in an attempt to reduce the number of House seats held by blue states, notably California, which stands to lose a large number of representatives.

For context, Gov DeSantis supported Trump’s idea, noting it would correct Florida and Texas’s underrepresentation. While this move will likely face pushback, recent wins, such as a Supreme Court case that limited lower court injunctions, look promising for Trump’s ambitious plan.

In any case, Trump introduced the plan by saying, “We want to bring our elections back… Ron, they include anyone that happens to be in your state.” Answering, DeSantis said, “California would lose like five seats if they did a fair census… The Biden census gypped Florida of at least one seat. We only got one seat… Texas should’ve had another one. That could be the difference in the House. I would love for them to redo the Census for ’26… We’ll redistrict those lines.”

Reacting to the incident, a prominent conservative took to X, formerly Twitter, on June 30, 2025, to say, “🚨 BREAKING: The White House is currently working on ways to EXCLUDE illegal aliens from the US census, per Stephen Miller.”

Explaining the advantages of this move to the GOP in the upcoming House elections, the same user said, “This would take away SEVERAL House seats from places like California, as seats are determined by population. GET IT DONE! No illegals in the census! 🇺🇸”

In the comments under the post, conservatives chimed in with their reactions. One such comment said, “Illegal aliens should NOT count towards representation.” Agreeing, another said, “If you can’t see that sanctuary states embrace illegals because it increases the number of representatives they have in congress, I can’t help you.”

Glad that the Trump administration was addressing this issue, another conservative said, “10000% necessary. One of the worst decisions SCOTUS ever made was to remove the citizenship question from the census.” Building on this point, a user noted, “Counting illegal aliens in the census unfairly rewards states with large illegal alien populations and even incentivizes it… It’s wrong and there is no doubt that this is not what the Founding Fathers ever intended.”

Offering a personal anecdote, one woman said, “My coworker who admits to being here illegally, her entire family of 7 receives full government assistance benefits, she is a law student on a free ride, she hates Trump and is terrified. She’s downloaded an “ICE app” to track the raids.” Using a personal example to explain the issue caused by illegal immigration, a reply asked, “Does this mean I might get my social security number back and my credit will be usable again? It’s currently suspended until 2031 due to the use of my SS# in 2024, according to one of the bureaus.”

Rounding out the comments, many users were annoyed by the Democrats’ America last policies, saying, “Convince the Senate that they need to remove Medicaid for illegals from the OBBB. I am repulsed that my tax dollars are currently paying for illegals while US citizens suffer.”
