President Trump is refusing to backtrack from his utter post-death skewering of Rob Reiner, the longtime Hollywood director who was slain in his home alongside his wife by their ne’er-do-well son in what appears to have been a family argument that got way too overheated. Their son has since been charged for both stabbings.
As background, President Trump and Reiner had long been feuding, with Reiner not only a far-left critic who routinely attacked President Trump and other conservative figures, including some who passed away. So, upon the announcement of Reiner’s death, President Trump took to Truth Social and skewered Reiner in a post that scandalized woke figures like Whoopi Goldberg, along with the usual sorts of pearl-clutching moderates.
Beginning the Truth Social post that set so many people off, the president alleged that it was Trump Derangement Syndrome that led to Reiner’s death. He said, “A very sad thing happened last night in Hollywood. Rob Reiner, a tortured and struggling, but once very talented movie director and comedy star, has passed away, together with his wife, Michele, reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME, sometimes referred to as TDS.”
Continuing, the president insisted that Reiner had been obsessed with him and what his administration was up to, even as it did great things for America, saying, “He was known to have driven people CRAZY by his raging obsession of President Donald J. Trump, with his obvious paranoia reaching new heights as the Trump Administration surpassed all goals and expectations of greatness, and with the Golden Age of America upon us, perhaps like never before. May Rob and Michele rest in peace!”
Trump then refused to back off of that post and the sentiment in it when pressed during a White House press conference on Monday, December 15. His further comments on Reiner’s death were precipitated by a reporter asking, “Mr. President, a number of Republicans have denounced your statement on Truth Social after the murder of Rob Reiner, do you stand by that post?”
President Trump didn’t back down or back off when pressed on it. Instead, he immediately fired back and told the reporter that Reiner was “deranged”, particularly when it came to MAGA-related matters, saying, “Well, I wasn’t a fan of his at all. He was a deranged person, as far as Trump is concerned.”
Then, noting that Reiner had allegedly been involved in pushing the Russia hoax that so harmed the first Trump Administration, the president said, “He said, [and] he likely, he knew it was false…in fact, it’s the exact opposite, that I was a friend of Russia, controlled by Russia, you know, the Russia hoax. He was one of the people behind it.”

Still not done, the president doubled down yet again on the Trump Derangement Syndrome line, saying, “I think he hurt himself in career wise. He became like a deranged person, Trump derangement syndrome. So I was not a fan of Rob Reiner at all in any way, shape or form. I thought he was very bad for our country.”
