Trump has developed Operation Guardian Angel as a method to bypass sanctuary city non-compliance by charging illegal immigrants with felony illegal reentry, which would force local leaders to honor federal felony warrants.
In a recent appearance on Fox News, Marc Thiessen, a former Republican speechwriter and political strategist, praised the strategy, noting that it has resulted in hundreds of successful arrests. Despite widespread support for mass deportations, Democrats have decided to oppose ICE at every turn, which Thiessen viewed as a significant blunder.
In any case, Shannon Bream began the Fox News segment by quoting from Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and contextualizing the problem with sanctuary cities. She began, “Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth put a post on X Saturday night in part saying, ‘The Department of Defense is mobilizing the National Guard immediately to support federal law enforcement in Los Angeles, and if violence continues, active-duty Marines at Camp Pendleton will be mobilized and they are on high alert.'”
Continuing, she quoted from the infamous governor of California, saying, “Governor Newsom responded this morning: ‘The Secretary of Defense is now threatening to deploy active-duty Marines on American soil against its own citizens. This is deranged behavior.'”
Reacting, Marc Thiessen slammed the Democrats for their out-of-touch opinion on immigration, crediting Trump’s hardline stance for his electoral success. Thiessen stated, “Two elections now, Donald Trump has beaten the Democrats, powered by illegal immigration, and they still can’t seem to get it right.”
Continuing to slam the violent anti-ICE protestors, the longtime politico added, “You have people literally burning cars, throwing rocks at ICE agents, and the Democrats are siding with the protesters over the administration trying to restore law and order.”
Explaining how Trump was able to outsmart the sanctuary cities, Thiessen said the left is backed into a corner. He declared, “And what has the left riled up, and what’s causing all this, is that the Trump administration has figured out a way around sanctuary city laws. Local officials can refuse to honor an ICE detainer, but they can’t refuse to honor a federal felony warrant.”

Digging into the details of this genius scheme, the strategist explained, “So the Trump administration has this thing called Operation Guardian Angel, where they are charging illegal migrants who reenter the country with felony illegal reentry, and then they are presenting the local jurisdictions with federal felony warrants, and they have to hand them over.”
Wrapping up his remarks, Thiessen described how mad this had made left-wing activists. He stated, “So they’ve been handing over hundreds of illegal migrants to ICE, and this has set people off—they found a way to basically lock the sanctuary city policies.”
