President Biden was recently called out after he suggested he would be more than willing to debate former President Donald Trump before the 2024 presidential election. Biden made the comment during a one-on-one interview with shock-jock Howard Stern on Friday morning.
“I don’t know if you’re going to debate your opponent,” Stern said, introducing the topic. Joe Biden answered, “I am, somewhere, I don’t know when. I’m happy to debate him.” Biden’s willingness to take on Trump in a head-to-head debate is a notable pivot from prior comments last month where the president told reporters such an event would depend “on his behavior.”
Following Biden’s remarks about a possible debate, Donald Trump quickly took this social media app, Truth Social, where he expressed skepticism that Biden would actually follow through on his claim. However, the former president said he would debate “ANYWHERE, ANYTIME, ANYPLACE.”
“Crooked Joe Biden just announced that he’s willing to debate! Everyone knows he doesn’t really mean it, but in case he does, I say, ANYWHERE, ANYTIME, ANYPLACE, an old expression used by Fighters. I suggest Monday Evening, Tuesday Evening, or Wednesday Evening at my Rally in Michigan, a State that he is in the process of destroying with his E.V. Mandate,” Trump said. “In the alternative, he’s in New York City today, although probably doesn’t know it, and so am I, stuck in one of the many Court cases that he instigated as ELECTION INTERFERENCE AGAINST A POLITICAL OPPONENT – A CONTINUING WITCH HUNT! It’s the only way he thinks he can win. In fact, let’s do the Debate at the Courthouse tonight – on National Television, I’ll wait around!”
While Trump was in New York City for the hush money trial, he addressed Biden’s debate remarks in his post-court comments to the press. “I just want to say that I’ve invited Biden to debate, he can do it anytime he wants including tonight, I’m ready? Here we are, I invited him to the courthouse that he has us tied up in, his administration. This is all being done through Washington, it’s a well-coordinated attack on a political opponent. But I’m here, I’m ready, willing and able. And if he wants I’ll do it on Monday night, Tuesday night or Wednesday night.”
Trump noted that he’ll be in Michigan, pointing out the apparent devastation to the auto industry caused by Biden. “We’ll be in Michigan State that he’s destroying because of the auto industry. We’re not going to have any jobs left in Michigan. No auto jobs left in Michigan, they’re all going over to China and other places with his ridiculous EV mandate, electric vehicle mandate.”
However, he continued emphasizing that he would participate in a debate any day of the week. Trump said, “But we’re willing to do it Monday night, Tuesday night, Wednesday night, Thursday night, or Friday night on national television. We’re ready just tell me where. We’ll do it in the White House, that would be very comfortable actually. But you tell me where we’re ready. He’s obviously not showing up now, we heard nothing.”
Trump doubled down on his doubt that Biden would partake in a debate, stating, “But he said today, ‘No, I’d love to debate,’ but he wont debate. I don’t think he’ll debate. Maybe he will…I’m not sure he has a choice. But that’s the story. So here we are. We’re ready, willing and able and we don’t see him and I don’t think he’ll be here. But maybe next week he’ll do, I doubt it. Maybe next week. So I just want to thank everybody for being here. I know you have to suffer through this like everybody else.
