Speaking on the floor of the house about the reality of the Big, Beautiful Bill (BBB) and what it means for working Americans, Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-OH) slammed the Democrats for lying about what the provisions of the bill actually are, explaining that it will help working class Americans the most, as Democrats claim they want to do.
As background, the bill mainly funds border defense, such as the wall and hiring thousands of new ICE agents, and makes the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act permanent while adding new tax cuts on tips and overtime. Further, it creates a $4,000 tax credit for seniors on Social Security, essentially doing away with taxes on Social Security for them.
Sen. Moreno, after explaining those key provisions of the bill, called on the leftists who have been so against it to explain what he got wrong and what they take issue with. He said, “I just laid it out. I would challenge anybody in the media, anybody listening to this, any of my Democrat colleagues to come out here on the floor and go line-by-line with what I just said and tell me what I said is not true.”
Continuing, he noted that the deficit will actually be reduced rather than rise under the bill, much in contrast to what certain opponents of it claim, all while creating tax cuts that will substantially help the working class. He said, “And this one big, beautiful bill does all of these things and reduces our deficit. What’s holding us back? Why can’t we pass this piece of legislation that helps working Americans? I’m old enough to remember when the Democrat Party was a party of the working class.”
Continuing, he noted that even a couple decades ago, Democrats would have supported the bill and its important provisions, saying, “This is the kind of bill that most Democrats would have advocated for 20, 30 years ago. The Center, the North Star, the guiding post for this bill is: does it help our middle class? Does it help working Americans? This bill does that in the ways that I just outlined. You would think that the Democrats would rush to the floor to vote for this thing.”
Contrasting that with how they are acting now, he noted that the lies pouring in are substantial and infuriating in a major way, snapping, “Instead, they will mischaracterize it at every step of the way. I just laid out the facts. The bill is 940 pages long. If you want to read it, read it for yourself. Don’t believe what you hear in the media. Don’t believe what the Democrats are going to tell you. Believe what I just told you, because these are facts that are indisputable.”
Adding that they have to lie about the bill because they can’t actually take issue with anything it does or says, the senator then noted, wrapping up, “In fact, I’ll close with this, Mr. President. I will guarantee you that there’s not one thing I outlined here today, any of these aspects of the bill, that my colleagues will dispute. Because they can’t. Because it’s in the plain text of the bill.”

Giving an example of such lies, he noted that they are claiming Republicans are taking away the health insurance policies of the needy through the bill to aid wealthy donors, whereas in reality it is the Democrats who represent the oligarchs. He said, “Instead, what they’ll do is they’ll use cliché lines like, we’re taking away health insurance from people who need it to give it to their billionaire buddies – you mean like George Soros? You mean like the founder of LinkedIn who funded all kinds of nonsense? Those billionaires?”
