Recently, Brooke Rollins, who is US Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins announced the cancellation of a New York contract that educated transgender and queer farmers on ‘food justice and food equality.’ Rollins expressed confusion over the program’s purpose and noted the Biden administration funded it.
This move is part of a broader trend in the Trump administration to eliminate waste and fraud in the federal government, precisely what they have called ‘woke spending.’ The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and other federal agencies have cancelled hundreds of grants.
To get back to Rollins, she opened her remarks by announcing he cancellation of an outrageous contract. She said, “Let me just add to that, and thank you. We just had a wonderful cabinet meeting, and we all aligned on the effort to realign the government. But even at the US Department of Agriculture, we’ve canceled $300,000 contract educating on food justice for queer and transgender farmers in San Francisco.”
She explained that this was not the only grant of its type. She remembered, “a similar contract we canceled in New York again, educating transgender and queer farmers on food justice and food equality. I’m not even sure what that means, but apparently the last administration wanted to put our taxpayer dollars towards that.”
Collins explored another wasteful program with an even more absurd goal. The Agriculture Secretary said, “We canceled a $600,000 contract, out of Louisiana, that was studying the menstrual cycles of transgender men, a $600,000 contract. We canceled another contract out of a university in the middle of the country that focused on getting more diversity, equity, and inclusion into our pest management industry.”
She concluded her remarks by acknowledging the absurdity of these grants: “Again, these are nonsensical. It makes zero sense to use taxpayer dollars to fund these. I know these are just a few examples of the hundreds. ”

A clip of the interaction was posted to X on March 22, 2025. In the comments, users were incensed by the woke grants. Many users were confused. One said, “I didn’t realize transgenders and queer farmers eat and farm differently than non transgenders and straight farmers do.” Another agreed and chimed in, “Their intention was to waste taxpayer dollars on woke nonsense instead of real agricultural issues—because apparently, crops now need pronouns too.”
Some expressed annoyance with this waste of time and resources. One comment read, “The Democrats did this with our money while hiring 87,000 IRS agents to cover after us and making us report moving money over $600. These people belong in jail, not elections!”
Others wondered if this woke grant had a more sinister motive. A reply noted, “It was money laundering disguised with 3rd-rail adjectives meant to keep anyone from asking what the hell it is, out of fear of being assigned one of the Dem’s lunatic labels. End all this now. Investigate who all the money was laundered to and prosecute everyone involved.” One user agreed, saying, “These nonsensical programs are just the label they slapped on them so they could launder more money to themselves. The ridiculousness of the program names is an additional slap in the face of the taxpayers.”
