WATCH: Top DOJ Official Confirms DOJ Launching Criminal Investigations into Walz, Frey

In another big win for those hoping to see sanctuary city officials start to actually face the consequences of their refusal to go along with federal law and aid in anti-illegal immigration efforts, United States Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche appeared on Fox News Sunday with Shannon Bream to reveal, on Sunday, January 18, that the rumors are accurate and the DOJ is investigating both Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey.

As background, days before Blanche’s appearance, reports began circulating in the media that both Walz and Frey would be facing criminal investigations from the Department of Justice over their alleged conspiracy to obstruct Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in their efforts to find and deport illegal aliens. Mayor Frey’s Minneapolis is a sanctuary city.

It was with those rumors circulating that Deputy AG Blanche informed Bream that the DOJ is actively investigating the two notorious Minnesota officials. Beginning, he said, “You saw the governor and the mayor actively encouraging, encouraging criminals to go out on the street and impede ICE. That is not allowed under our law.”

Continuing, Blanche argued that federal agents have to be able to do their job when out on operations, and the fact that they are being impeded in their efforts is absolutely abominable, saying, “When a Federal officer is out doing their job, they have to be allowed to do their jobs.”

He added that what Frey and Walz have been up to is “horrible”, explaining to Bream, “And the fact that we had to stand up and tell a mayor, that we had to stand up and tell a governor, to stop encouraging the folks that are that are out there running around trying to stop ICE, to stop encouraging them when what they really should be doing is helping their fellow Federal officers, is something that’s horrible.”

Further, Deputy AG Blanche noted that what Walz, Frey, and the leftist agitators are doing is entirely illegal, as attempting to impede a federal officer as that officer goes about his job is absolutely illegal, and the sort of efforts we have seen in Minnesota to stop them, efforts cheered by Walz and Frey, are thus very illegal.

He said, explaining that the behavior of all the parties mentioned is very illegal, “But listen, no matter who you are, whether you’re a governor, a mayor or somebody out there on the streets assaulting ICE, you cannot, under federal law, you cannot impede a federal officer doing their job.”

Concluding, he noted that such illegal behavior is exactly what is being investigated, as what the mayor and governor have been saying is illegal and will be made to stop. He said, “And that that’s that’s what we’re looking at, and I’m not going to talk about the investigation, but, but American people can, can see what the mayor has been saying, they can see what the governor has been saying. And it’s obvious that that has to stop.”
