Past footage of Incoming border czar Tom Homan sounding off on a congressional Democrat recently resurfaced on social media as conservatives anticipate the implementation of his border agenda. The clip comes from a 2019 congressional hearing in which Rep. Jesus Garcia (D-IL) slammed Homan over the separation of illegal immigrant families at the southern border.
Rep. Garcia began, “Mr. Homan you have said that most immigrant immigrants are, quote, not criminals other than the criminal act that they do when they enter the country illegally.” Pushing to change the law to prevent family separation, he added, “That is why I think we ought to revisit decriminalizing desperation striking sections 1325, and 1326. Of title 8 of the US Code, the statutes that the administration has leveraged to separate 1000s of children from their families.”
Questioning Homan’s integrity, Garcia continued, “Mr. Homan, do you understand that the consequences of separation of many children will be lifelong trauma and carried across generations? Have We not learned from the internment of Japanese Americans? Mr. Homan, I’m a father. Do you have children? How can you possibly allow this to happen under your watch? Do you not care? Is it because these children don’t look like children that are around you? I don’t get it. Have you ever held a deceased child in your arms?”
Responding to the Democrat, Homan harshly rebuked Garcia’s comments about him. “First of all, your comments are disgusting,” he said. “I’ve served my country 34 years…This is out of control…That’s what I’ve been trying to do my 34 years serving my nation is to save lives. So for you to sit there and insult my integrity and my love for my country and for the and for children, that’s why this whole thing needs to be fixed.”
Imploring members of Congress to do their jobs as elected officials, Homan added, “And you’re the member the member of Congress. Fix it!” After order had been restored to the room as Garcia and Homan argued over top of each other, the incoming border czar maintained, “No one in this room has seen what I’ve seen my 34-year career.”
Continuing on this point, he said, “No one has experienced what I’ve experienced. I’ve saw many dead bodies coming across this border.” Referencing a memo that he signed, which Democrats have argued is the source of child separation at the border, he asserted, “You want to talk about the memo. This memo is one option to stop death, not just about enforcing the law. If you want to legalize illegal immigration, good luck with that, because it’s going to get a hell of a lot worse in that border.”
Outlining the consequences of not deterring illegal immigration, he said, “If you say, well, great for now on, there will be no consequence, no deterrence. It’s not illegal to come this country legally. More families will come. 31% women would be raped, more children would die.” Concluding his monologue, Homan reminded Congress that they determine the laws, and if they don’t like something they should change it.”

The soon-to-be border czar said, “We’re a nation of laws. If you don’t like it, sir, change it. You’re the legislator. I’m the executive branch, and I’ve served my country honorably for 34 years now. I will not sit here, have anybody say that I don’t care about children because you’re not the same color as my children.”
