The sanctuary city of New York’s new far-left mayor, Zohran Mamdani, vowed to refuse to let New York Police Department officers work with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents to crack down on illegal immigration. Trump Administration Border Czar Tom Homan, responding in an appearance on Fox News, went nuclear and vowed to crack down on NYC regardless of Mamdani’s demands.
As background, Mamdani is a Muslim and was born in Uganda. Now a naturalized US citizen, Mamdani is known mainly for his radical views on economics, with President Trump calling him a “communist,” and for his pro-illegal immigrant stances that have put him in sharp conflict with Border Czar Tom Homan.
The recent feud came when, in the wake of his victory, a reporter asked Mamdani about his stance on ICE and ICE operations in New York City, asking, “Commissioner Tisch received a heads-up from ICE that that raid would occur on Canal Street. Now apparently she did give the Adams administration a heads-up.”
Continuing, the reporter pressed Mamdani on how he would react to such a situation and if he would have demanded that NYPD officers refuse to work with ICE, asking, “If you were in his shoes, how would you have reacted to this? Would you have said, ‘Yes, NYPD officers do not interfere with ICE,’ but how would you have acted as mayor?’”
Replying, Mamdani insisted that he is going to stand up for New Yorkers by not working with ICE, snapping, “What I will continue to do is be someone who will stand up for New Yorkers when Donald Trump is seeking to fulfil his promise to create the single largest deportation force in American history.”
Adding to that, the communist mayor-elect insisted that the New York Police Department, which he referred to as “my NYPD,” would not be working with ICE. He said, “And my NYPD will continue to not be of assistance to ICE whenever they are trying to terrorise New Yorkers across the five boroughs.” Watch him here:

Tom Homan then appeared on Fox News and was asked, “Tom, you had mentioned earlier that political rhetoric such as this really emboldens these bad guys for violence against ice officials and the DHS has reported up to 800% increase assaults against ICE and border patrol officers this year, all while staffing remains stretched thin. So my question to you, Tom is, what are we doing to protect these agents on the ground. Are the current laws strong enough to deter violence against them? Or does Congress need to do more?”
Responding, Homan said, “So Mamdani needs to take a look at what happened in Chicago. Mayor Johnson is pushing back. He’s not helping. Guess what? We’re arresting 1000s of people in Chicago every week. We’re going to arrest people there tonight. We’re gonna arrest people there tomorrow. All these, all these mayors who who don’t want their community safer. They can scream and yell and protest all they want. We’re going to be out there tomorrow and by the next day, and like I said months ago, in sanctuary cities like Chicago and New York, we will flood the zone.”
Continuing, Homan said, “The more agents we hired, we’re hiring 10,000 new officers, they’ll be flooding the zone in sanctuary cities. Why? Because we know we have a problem with sanctuary cities. We know they’re releasing public safety threats from their jails every day back in the community. If he was smart, he led us into Rikers Island so we can arrest a bad guy in the safety and security of a jail, rather than him releasing people to the street to reoffend against his citizens of the city.”
Homan then insisted, “So we’re going to make New York safe again, with or without him. We would like his partnership, but we want to stand by and let us do his job for him. That’s what we’ll do. We’re going to make New York safer, say, or New York City safer. President Trump made that promise, and we’re keeping that promise. Every criminal alien we take off the streets of Chicago, Los Angeles, New York makes those neighborhoods safer. So y’all become President Trump up and thanking him for making his neighborhood safer.”
