Reviewing the outcome of the recent vice presidential debate, which has largely been considered a win for JD Vance, the co-hosts on ABC’s “The View” sounded off on the Republican vice presidential candidate. While the panelists conceded that Vance won the event in terms of appearance and delivery, they attempted to prop up Minnesota Governor Tim Walz regarding substantive commentary.
Co-host Sarah Haines acknowledged that while Vance may have won the debate on “delivery and style,” she maintained that Walz walked away as the victor based on his supposed command over “substance and policy.” Haines particularly took issue with Vance questioning why Kamala Harris has not accomplished anything throughout her time in the White House under the current administration.
“Yesterday, I said you’re going to see delivery and style, and JD Vance took the night on that. If you were watching for substance and policy, Tim Walz cleared, clearly crossed that bar for me, because there were a couple things that were bothering me last night. JD Vance kept repeating, why hasn’t Kamala Harris done that yet?” she said.
“Okay, so, for the very job, you’re running for you are the Vice President, you are the second in charge. This was Biden’s administration…” she said before co-host Sunny Hostin interjected, questioning if Vance had ever taken a “civics class.” Haines continued, “Apparently not. He did say like three times. Why hasn’t she done it yet and I’m like if we have to stop this for a second to explain what a vice president does. We are really in trouble here.”
Conservative commentator Nicholas Fondacaro shared the clip, writing, “The View cast lose it over Vance repeatedly asking Walz why hasn’t Kamala Harris acted on any of her proposals since she’s already in the current administration and has Biden’s ear. They screech that Vance doesn’t know how government works and needs a civics class.”
Other users on on social media reacted to the commentary from the left-leaning talk show hosts, with one person stating, “Harris is 2nd in charge. Was the deciding vote on several disastrous bills that skyrocketed inflation and the last one in the room with Biden on the Afghanistan withdrawal. She was a part of everything going wrong in our country!”
Fondacro shared another clip from the segment with Hostin claiming that Walz had a stronger “command of the facts.” Hostin said, “Well, that was the craziest part, because no answer is an answer, right? And I think Walz was the clear winner. I’m surprised that some polls are saying something different. He was in command of the facts. He was in command of policies. He was civil, he was kind, he was willing to admit he made a mistake. On the other hand, JD Vance refused to admit that Trump lost the 2020 election. He is an election denier that, in my view, makes him not only unfit, but disqualifies him from the very office with which he is for, which he is running for, and the Kamala Harris and Tim Walz campaign has taken note of it.”
