Just weeks after hosting a ritzy LA-area fundraiser for President Joe Biden, actor George Clooney turned on the president, calling on him to step down from being the Democratic nominee’s party in December. Predictably, Clooney’s comments caused a freakout amongst those on the left who are still loyal to Biden. They also caused Trump to sound off, roasting Clooney on Truth Social.
As background, Clooney made his comments about the Biden situation in an op-ed in the New York Times. In it, he praised Biden for what he saw as having “saved our democracy” in 2020 by managing to beat Trump and force him out of office, but then went on to say that Biden needs to step down because Democrats “are not going to win in November with this president.”
Amongst those on the left who freaked out about the matter was Joy Behar, one of the far-left co-hosts of ABC’s “The View.” She said, during the Thursday broadcast of that show, that she is “mad” that the actor called on President Biden to step aside for someone more electable in his New York Times op-ed, saying that he should have at least made the call in private.
Behar asked, “George Clooney couldn’t he tell him that in person for God’s sake?! He has to write an op-ed piece?” She continued, “The World Bank said last month that the U.S. economy under Biden is boosting up the entire global economy right now. Why doesn’t George Clooney mention that in his op-ed piece? I’m mad at George Clooney right now, even though we dated. I wish.”
Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin pushed back on Behar’s claims somewhat. She said, “I respectfully disagree Joe Biden’s feelings don’t matter more than the country. This is not the media. This is not a narrative. This is Democrats, lifelong, who want to defeat Donald Trump and know how to win races saying that Joe Biden cannot win as things are going.”
But then another co-host, Sunny Hostin, sided with Behar. She said, “I don’t like that George Clooney did this. I don’t like that George Clooney aired this dirty laundry to the world. I think these conversations are happening [and] I think they should be happening because our democracy is at stake, but they should be happening privately with the Commander in Chief who we should have the utmost respect for.”

Former President Trump also went on the attack against Clooney over the comments, doing so in a post on Truth Social. He said, “So now fake movie actor George Clooney, who never came close to making a great movie, is getting into the act. He’s turned on Crooked Joe like the rats they both are. What does Clooney know about anything?”
Continuing, he said, “He uses the Democrat “talking point” that Biden, the WORST President in the history of the United States, has “saved our Democracy.” No, Crooked Joe was the one who WEAPONIZED Law Enforcement against his political Opponent, who created the most devastating INFLATION in the history of our Country, who Embarrassed our Nation in Afghanistan, and whose crazy Open Border Policy has allowed millions of people to illegally pour into our Country, many from prisons and mental institutions. Crooked Joe Biden didn’t save our Democracy, he brought our Democracy to its knees. Clooney should get out of politics and go back to television. Movies never really worked for him!!!”
