In a recent podcast interview with Brian Teta, who hosts “The View” podcast, “The View” co-host Sunny Hostin spoke out about the interview Kamala did on the “The View” during the runup to the presidential election, one in which she said she wouldn’t do anything differently from Biden.
Particularly, Hostin said that when she asked Harris what she would do differently than Biden, and Harris replied by telling her, “There is not a thing that comes to mind,” that that was a major turning point in the 2024 election and it seriously hurt the Democrat attempt to win the presidency.
For reference, Kamala was shredded for that answer. Sen. Vance, for example, told a crowd, referring to the incident, “They said, Can you name a single thing where you disagree with Joe Biden?” Vance continued, “Now let’s back up for a second, because remember, Kamala Harris’s entire campaign is to pretend that she hasn’t been the vice president for the last three and a half years. You know, she stands up before crowds and she’ll say, on day one, we’re going to tackle the affordability crisis. On day one, we’re going to secure the border. And you listen to her for five minutes and you think, Kamala, are you going to vote for Donald Trump? Because you’ve been vice president for 1400 days, you haven’t done anything.”
Hostin, commenting on the question and answer when speaking to Teta, seemed to get a subtle dig in at Kamala, noting that all she had to do was give a reasonable answer to the “layup” question, but that Kamala proved unequal to the task. “Look, I think it wasn’t so much about the question, but it was really more about the answer, ‘Not a thing comes to mind.’:
Building on that, Hostin noted that she followed up in an attempt to get Harris to give a reasonable answer, saying, “And that’s what I followed up with. Is there anything that you would do differently? And the reason I followed up is because that wasn’t a gotcha question. That was a layup really. It was an important question and I think one she should have expected.”
Hostin added, “That’s what I thought. I actually thought it was a chance for her to explain to all the people who are saying, I want a change agent, for her to explain that of course she has a different lived experience from President Biden. But they did have one of the most successful administrations in our country.”
Further commenting on the incident, Hostin noted what Kamala should have said, telling Teta, “I thought she would then say, ‘I would build on the wins that we’ve had. And I had a laundry list of wins in my head.’ And she didn’t answer it that way. She said not a thing comes to mind.”
Hostin, trying to tack back to supporting Kamala, said, “And listen, I think it goes to show you how loyal she was to the President, who gave her the opportunity to run for President, who chose her as his Vice President.” Teta chimed in, noting, “And who basically named her as his successor when he endorsed her.”
Hostin then explained, “Yes, it says a lot about her character, her values. I love a ride or die person. So I’m not going to opine as to whether or not it was the right answer or the wrong answer. I will just say I was surprised at the answer because it was a question that really could have inured to her benefit. It was a question that could have been a change maker.”
