WATCH: “The View” Co-Host Claims Canceling Colbert’s Show Is the “dismantling of our Constitution”

In the wake of CBS deciding to cancel Stephen Colbert’s “Late Show” because it was losing tens of millions of dollars a year and offloading it is in the financial interest of CBS owner Paramount, “The View” co-host Sunny Hostin went berserk and claimed that ending the unpopular show could mean the “dismantling of our Constitution” is nigh.

For reference, the cancellation of Colbert’s show was announced on Thursday, July 17, with CBS and its parent company, Paramount, noting that the choice to cancel the late-night show was “purely a financial decision,” which make sense, as Colbert’s show was reportedly losing the network $40 million a year.

However, leftists have been freaking out about the news and declaring that it shows CBS and Paramount are bending the knee to a tyrannical administration, as also shown by the recent settlement with President Trump, in the hope that he will approve a merger that Paramount is trying to make with Skydance Media. That is why Colbert claimed that the settlement was a “big fat bribe” shortly before his firing was announced.

Hostin, in any case, declared that all Americans should be “concerned” that the unfunny late-night cable host’s show was canceled, declaring, “My concern is, if it is political, then everyone should be concerned. People on the right should be concerned. People on the left should be concerned.”

Continuing, she declared that the concern ought be ever-present in the minds of Americans because the show’s cancellation shows the “dismantling” of America’s “democracy” and Constitution. She said,  “Because it’s very clear that, if it is political, this is the dismantling of our democracy. This is the dismantling of our Constitution. Right?”

Hostin then added, without addressing the left’s long-term attempts to deplatform conservatives on social media for expressing their views, that the point of the First Amendment is the freedom to “speak truth to power,” declaring, “The First Amendment is the First Amendment for a reason and that is freedom of the press, freedom of speech. Freedom to speak truth to power.”

Returning to the idea that firing a late-night show host who viewers generally find unfunny because his comedy was ruined by his brain-rotting politics and deep committment ot pushing the party line is an attack on the Constitution, saying, “If that is taken away, if the comedians are being attacked, then that means our Constitution is being dismantled…”

She then also returned to the idea that firing Colbert and canceling his show is an attack on “democracy” in America and all Americans should be concerned about Colbert, saying, “That means the very rubric of our democracy is being dismantled. And I think every single person should be really, really concerned about it.”

Still not done with that yelling, Hostin then declared that what is going on is more important than just the cancellation of a TV show because “our democracy” is under attack, saying, “We must protect our Constitution and we must protect our democracy! This is bigger than just the cancellation of a television show!”
