For over thirty years, “The Simpsons” has provided hilarious commentary on American culture in their twenty-eight seasons of episodes. In recent years, American culture has become filled with woke phenomena such as cancel culture, political correctness, and much more. College campuses have become a breeding ground for this kind of thought, and “The Simpsons” character Mr. Burns discovers this firsthand when visiting Yale. See the clip from the episode below.
The scene opens with a hilarious jab at Yale, where a depiction of the college’s campus has a sign stating, “Yale University The Harvard of Connecticut.” From there, Mr. Burns is guided around campus by administrators of the University coaxing him into donating a large sum of money to his prestigious alma mater. He says, “I am here to offer you money. I’d like to endow a department of nuclear plant management.”
Of course, nuclear energy is a form of cheap renewable energy that is incongruent with the left for whatever reason. The Yale admins respond, “Wonderful. Of course we can’t do nuclear.” One of them succinctly states, “Our students are highly entitled wusses.” They continue, “You’d be creating a space for violence to happen.” Text on the screen indicates that this statement about violence was an actual quote from a Yale student. Woke college students will claim their existence is threatened the second they are faced with an opinion contradicting their own.
The administrator offers a more woke-friendly suggestion about where Mr. Burns can allocate his money. “How about funding a chair and the non narrative cinema of self identified pansexuals.” They also informed him that nuclear power is “hetero-patriarchal” and they would need to hire more deans to determine “which Halloween costumes are appropriate” as well as bring in “multicultural empathizers” and build a new safe space.
The clip also highlights how woke, coddled college students drive all of this behavior, demanding such woke policies from school administrators. Mr. Burns is disgusted by what he sees as an alumnus and states, I’m not giving this school a dime,” representing the attitudes of many college alumni who don’t even recognize the Universities they once attended.
Louder With Crowder commented on how “The Simpsons” did a great job depicting what the broader University system in America has become:
The Simpsons hit the nail on the head here. Even Yale has devolved into politically correct hysteria. They boast student accomplishments such as AntiFa, BlackLivesMatter, and other associated leftist protesters. In fact, if ever there was an accurate representation of current the college climate – this is it. Have we mentioned lately that you shouldn’t go?
Gone are the days of the gold standard within higher education. At present, universities appear as little more than odorous lagoons prime for breeding mouth-breathing marsh ogres. You know the ones I’m talking about…
Despite “The Simpsons” being a veteran TV show with years of reputation, it is great to see that they will call out leftism, unlike many other forms of media, which cower to wokeness.
